Mn T. J. Simmon* in honor of Mr*.
Mary E. Simmons, mother of Dr. Sim
mon* tendereil her elderly friends a
charming entertainment from 4 to 6
o'clock Monday afternoon. Annually,
early In May, Mr*. Simmon* gives this
affair, which she dubs her "Grandmoth
er’s Party." and alway* It I* one of the
most enjoyable given at Shorter Col
lege. About thirty gentlewomen graced
the occasion. The happiest feature of
the afternoon was Mrs. Simmons' sing
ing of many .old songs dear to memory.
The week was largely given over to
the Elks, and Rome’s hospitality was
unstinted. A number of Elk* brought
their ladle* to the annual meet and
they were royally entertained.
Mrs. R. A. Denny, a* the wife of the
exalted ruler of the state, entertalne]
the visiting ladles Wednesday after
noon from 4 to. 6 o'clock. Her attrac
tive home was handsomely decorated
with a quantity of roses, pnd the .nctlf
of purple and white predominated. The
hostess combined the rich tones in her
dainty gown. Mrs. McIntosh, of Al
bany; Mr*. Barnes, of Mllledgevl'le;
Mrs. Brooks, of Augusta, stood with
the hostess In the parlor, while Mes-
riatnes Ida Nevln Patton, Alvin Dean,
Walker Curry and Miss Rosa Gammon
entertained the guests.
About one hundred and fifty guests
were present.
Mrs. B. F. Roark was hostess to the
Bridge Whist Club Saturday afternoon
and the company consisted only of ’.he
limited membership of eight.
Miss Edith Smith had the New

pleasantly with her. Her sister. Mrs.
James P. Mooreland. of Mobile, was
her guest of honor.
Mrs. Charles Underwood came up
from Atlanta to spend the days of the

Mrs. W. M. Henry leaves early In the
week for her home, In Wellington, Ohio,
to spend the summer.
Mr. and Mrs. W. A. McWilliams, of
Macon, visited Miss Annie Todd while
they were In Rome with the Elks dele
gation.
Mrs. John C. Reese, of Atlanta, is
the guest of her mother, Mrs. Mary

Patton will give a song recital nt the
Grand. In Atlanta, Friday evening.
Miss Sarah Hamilton has returned
from Atlanta, accompanied by her
friend, Miss Kate Rucker, of that city.

Mrs. R. D. Leonard and three Inter
esting children, Virginia, Richard and
Rebecca, have gone to Columbus. Oa.,
on a visit to Mrs. Leonard's father, Mr.

The Dallas High School commence
ment oponed lost night and will con
tinue until Tuesday evening. Rev. Mr.
Hutchinson, of Atlanta, will preach the
commencement sermon at the Baptist
rhurch Sunday.
The “Popular Parson,” a play given
by the Dallas Thespian Society re
cently, was a great success, both artis
tically and financially.
Miss LIUlan Fain will bo one of the
attendants at the marriage of Miss
Boimle Helms to Mr. Henderson, both
of Rome. Ga. The wedding will take
place May 28.'
Misses Mary and Hallle Moore, of
Meadowcroft farm, near Bmyma. are
guests of Miss Nellie Spinks during the
commencement season.
Mrs. Hackney and- son. Cecil, of
Birmingham, Ala, Mrs. Slaughter and

Mr. Charlie Fain has returned to St
Louis after a pleasant visit to his sis
ter, Miss Lillian Fain, and father. Judge

Mr. H. B. Ritchie will spend the sum

yesterday in Dallas.
Miss Gertie Brooks will visit Ac-

Mr. Colquitt Clonts leaves for Atlanta
next week, where he goes to engage In

Mrs. Cecilia Keef, of Augusta, will
visit Dallas next week.
Miss Clara Moon, who haa been sick,
Is now fully recovered.
Dallas promises to be very gay dur
ing the commencement season, as a
number of visitors are expected at this
time and several entertainments will be
given in their honor.
Colonel W. E. Spinks has returned
from a business trip to Atlanta, Villa
Rica and Acworth.
The revival at the Methodist church
closed Tuesday night. Mr. Hill con
ducted the meeting, which has lasted
nearly two weeks.
Mr. St. John has returned from At
lanta.
Mr. Talrnadge Cooper spent yester
day in Cedartown.

home, after a couple of months at Hot

Mrs. Allie C. Blrchf who has been
visiting friends here, has gone to New
York, from whence she will sail for

the extreme illnesi of her little grand

A delightful meeting of tho Ionian Club
was held with Mrs. W. L. Dure, the re
tiring president. Thursday afternoon, when
the election of officers for tho following

mado president. Mrs. John Stratford vice
president, Mrs. W. C. Maxwell recording
secretary, nnd Mrs. Gren Andrews secretary
nnd treasurer, Mrs. Dure delegate, and
Mrs. Seymour director. Mrs. Dure and
Mrs. C. A. I-Tiller served a delicious two-
courso lunch, and a social hour followed,
when farewells were exchanged for tho
summer.
