morning Rev. J. C. Kilgo, president of
Trinity College, delivered the literary
address at Emory College, with "The
Model American or Ideal Americanism'
aa his subject. Ha pictured Robert E.
Leo as the nearest man to tha perfect
American and delivered one of the best
addressee heard here for soma time.
At 4 o'clock the Junior oration con
teat was held, with the following pro

The medal for the beat oration was
given to Robert M. Arnold, of Perry, Oa.
The trustees met In the afternoon
and decided to erect a memorial to the
memory of Dr. Young J. Allen.
The petition presented by the non
fraternity men to forbid fraternltiee
"spiking" new men for a period of
three months after (heir entrance Into
college, was tabled. The committee
decided that no change ought to bo
made without a recommendation from
the college faculty.
Hon. L. Z. Rosier, of Atlanta, deliv
ered the alumni addresa at I o'clock
last night. Immediately after the ad-
dresa the alumni banquet was held In
the college dining hall and waa an
elaborate affair. Toasts were proposed
by many class representatives and the
affair was very elaborate.

WAS TUESDAY STORM
Up out of the west at 7:30 o’clock
Wednesday night came an electrical
storm, accompanied by a deluge of
rain of some fifteen minutes’ duration
Tha weather bureau record shows
rainfall of .1 of an Inch during that
brief lime.
The storm whipped out of the neat
at an hour when hundreds of people
were hurrying home or to the theaters
or amusement reeorta.' In the midst of
the Incessant lightning flashes the
electric lights suddenly burned out,
and cars stopped dead alt over the city.

Election Postponed.
Owing to the fact that Aloe King,
one of tho director* of the Atlanta Qaa
Light Company, la In Ran Francisco on
legal business, the election of a presi
dent of tho gas company was postponed

Washington, June 12.—Million* of
dollars are Involved in a case now be
ing argued before the interstate com
merce commission.
The big lumber interests of the West
charge that owing to the fight between
the Harrlman and Hill systems It Is
impossible to get lumber and shingles
from points in Washington through
Oregon to points In Idaho, Utah, Wy
oming, Colorado, Kansas and Nebras
ka, except by paying the looal rate to
Portland and rebllllng. --
The complainants desire that the Hill
and Harriman lines be forced to "get
together" on this through business and
make Joint rates for the lumber Indus
try.

diction made from the City of Mexico
that General Belaya's confidential emls-
sary, Don Jobs Dolores Gomes, minister
of foreign nffatre of Nicaragua, would
go to Mexico to attend a conference for

of States, has been parity confirmed by
tho sudden departure of Gomes to Mex
Ico, with Consul Echesseretta, the Nic
araguan envoy. It was announced that
he would go to Washington on a spe
cial mission from Belaya to President
Roosevelt. A cablegram from Managua,
however, sent him southward to Mex
ico.
It Is believed by Influential Central
Americans hers that the plan for a
confederation under a protectorate of
Mexico and the United States will be
discussed between President Diaz and
Minister Gurnet, and that after this
discussion the convention will be called
to ratify plans already determined upon.
