Haynes, the Infant son of Mr, and
Mrs. William G. Haynes, of Columbia,
S. C\, who died Saturday morning at
the residence of A. D. Adair, 94 Wash
ington street, were conducted Sunday
afternoon at 3:30 o’clock. Mrs. Haynes
was the daughter of the late Captain
John A. Grant, who died several weeks
ago.

The funeral services of Mrs. J. F.
McGrath, who died Saturday night aft-,
er a long Illness, were conducted Mon
day afternoon at 3 o'clock In the chapel
of Greenberg, Bond & Bloomfield. The
Interment was In Westvlew cemetery.
Her husband, J. F. McGrath, has been
connected with Durand's restaurant for
a number of years.
Mrs. Mattie Deavours.
The funeral services of Mrs. Mattie
Deavours. aged 23 years, the wife of
J. C. Deavours, who died Saturday aft
ernoon at a private sanitarium after
a short illness, were conducted Mon
day afternoon at 3 o’clock at St. Johns
Methodist Episcopal church, on Georgia
avenue. The interment was in West-
view cemetery. Mrs. Deavours resided
at 530 Central avenue.

The body of Mrs. Frank Traber, who
died Saturday afternoon at her resi
dence, 60 King street, was seiit to Con
yers, Ga., Monday morning. The fu
neral services and Interment will be In
that city Monday afternoon.

wife of W. J. Haines, who died Sun

Monday morning. The funeral services
and Interment will take place in that

The funeral services of Mrs. M. K.
.Word, who died Sunday afternoon at
her residence In Hapevllle, Go., will
be conducted Monday afternoon at 3:30
o’clock. She had been -111 some time
with typhoid fever. Before her mar
riage Mrs. Word was Miss Lilly But-

Salisbury, N. C., July 1.—Sim Dunn,
a negro, 80 years old, Is In Jail charged
with attempting an attack on Mrs. T.
W. Watklne, the wife of a well-known
music dealer. Mrs. Watkins ran Into
the house and shot twice at the man.
Her description of him led to the arrest

DEFICIT IS SHOWN
IN PENSION FUND
Commissioner John W. Lindsey, In
hit annual report, calls attention to the
pension deficit for 1307 of 343,500. He
■ays that this deficit was caused by
the legislature Ignoring the recommen
dations of tbs department and cutting
down the appropriations for 1306 and
1307 320,000. If this sum had been al
lowed, the deficit Would have been
about wiped out.
For 1308 and 1303 he asks for 8360,-
000 for pensions, as against .3890,000
for the two preceding years. If epn-
templated extensions are made In this
legislature even more will be needed.
He asks that pensioners b, relieved of
payment of II fees to ordlfmriea for
making out pension papers.

Jackson, Miss., July 1.—The Joint de
bate between John Sharp Williams and
Governor Vardaman, which Is to take
place next Thursday In Meridian, Is
attracting a great deal of attention and
the Indications arc that there will be
20,000 visitors attracted to the city
by the debate. The newspapers are
preparing to send their best staff men
there to report and will lease private
wires to carry ths rows of the debate
to their papers. It promises to be one
of the most notable debates that has
taken plac* In Mississippi line* the
war.

LAW IN EFFECT
Washington, July 1.—Throughout the
world today there becomes, effective a
most Important American cltlsenshtp
law which abolishes ths long standing
presumption that a man, once
American Is always an American.
By the new law, beginning July 1,
all native born and naturalised Ameri
cans living abroad, must register and
receive certificates of registration.
This applies to all persons who have
lived abroad more than two years, at
which time their pass-porta shall In the
future expire.

number of eltlsens of Atlanta will be
held at the Carnegie Library for the
purpose of discussing plans for the In
stitution of a class for the blind and a
special library for their use. The ad
visability of establishing such a class
has been widely discussed recently by
friends of ths blind, and It Is expected
that definite action will be token at the
coming meeting. .
Miss Jeon Ittner has consented to
take charge of a class of the blind, and
will be present at the meeting to dla-
cuss the proposition.
