lingham. pastor of tin* Flfth-ave. Bap
tist church, lifts resigned his position
and the church Is now seeking a pas
tor. Rev. Mr. Willingham is a son of
Dr. It. J. Willingham and served the
church, which Is tho second largest In
the county, for three years. Ills resig
nation was caused by the Illness of bis
wife at a sanitarium In Battle Creek.
Mich. Her condition has been such ns
to demand his presence at her bedside
for several months.
A number of the membership favors
the extension of a call to the Rev. G.
A. Nunnally, V. D.. who has been
serving tho church as supply during
the absence of'the pastor. Dr. Nun-
nally Is a noted Georgia preacher and
educator, who was during 1908 a can
didate against Hoke Smith for gov
ernor.

without a pastor. Rev. J. T. Roberts,
of the Houjh Broad-st. Baptist church,
resigned a few days ago to accept tho
pastorate of the Second Baptist church

by the home lodge to make all ar
rangements for tho reception and en
tertainment of the visiting delegates
from the different lodges in this dis

A sub-committee was appointed by
the general committee at their meeting
Monday to assist In making complete
arrangements for the holding of the
convention.
A large attendance Is expected, and
It Is the purpose of the local lodge to
extend every courtesy to the visitors
and to make their stay here as en
joyable and Impressive as possible.
Thirty-seven lodges are Included In
this district, which comprises the fol
lowing counties: Clarke, Jackson,
Oglethorpe. Wilkes, Madison and
From three to five delegates general
ly represent each lodge and It Is likely
that there will he a large number of
visitors here for this occasion. Among
the prominent members of the order
who have promised to be present are
Grand Master Davis, of Home, Ga.; Di
vision Deputy Von der Leith, of Ath
ens; Judge Brand and Judge Russell,
besides several other well-known men.
It has been several years since a ses
sion was held here, and It Is the desire
of the members of the Harmony Grove
lodge to make It one of tho most suc
cessful that has ever been held.

HawkinsviHe, Ga., Feb. 19.—A terrific
rain storm, accompanied with thunder
and lightning, occurred here Thursday
evening, lasting an hour. Part of the
Iron roof on the store of Coney. Love-
joy A Co. was blown off and their stock
of merchandise 'damaged by water. The
roof was lifted and rolled up, letting
tho rain In over half of the store, dam
aging shoes, clothing, dry goods and
papers In the office.
A glass In the display window* of the
Poole Mercantile (*ompany*a dry goods
store was blown In. but lift I© harm was
done to the stock. A glass In the
front door of the Southern Express
Company’s office was broken by the
door being suddenly, slummed by tho
wind. Thin Ice formed during the

Taft Going to New York.
Washington, Fab. 19.—President Taft
Is to leave here next Tuesday morning
to be the guest of the New Jersey So
ciety of the Cincinnati at Its banquet
to be given at tho Pinza hotel. New
York, Wednesday afternoon. He ex
pects to return here Thursday morning.
The president has definitely decided
ta visit Rochester and Albany. N. Y.,
and New Huven, Conn., after his par
ticipation In the 8t. Pntrlek day cele
bration of the Fellowship club at Chl-

TO BUILD WAREHOUSE

meeting, of the Wilkes county branch

rided to erect a large warehouse for
the storage of cotton and fertilizers.
Fund* have been raised and the lot on
which tin* warehouse I* to stand has

the farmer* composing* the organiza
tion to have the plant ready for the

The “open shop” adherents among the
working people are arrayed against the
organized labor supporters In what ap
pears to be a battle to the death. Open
hostility between the two factions was
precipitated by the recent Invasion of
this city, long known a* an “open
*hop” town, by eighteen organizers rep
resenting the unions of every form of
labor employed here.
The union representatives accuse C.
W. Post, the breakfast food manufac
turer, who ha* rigidly maintained the
“open shdp” In his factories here, of
going out of his way to assail organized

Rome. Ga., Feb. 19.—K. W. Ray, spe
cial census enumerator for manufac
turing Industries, has arrived" and
opened offices In the Federal building.
He Is In eharge of the Rome district.
Including the counties of Floyd. Polk.
Paulding. Douglas,- Carroll. Haralson
and Chattooga.
Mr. Ray will also compile figures as
to the mining and quarrying Industries
of the district. The reports will In
clude the quantity and kind of power
used, number of employees, sex and
rate of pay. amount and value of an
nual product, otc.
There are more than *0 factories
and 25 mines In Floyd county.

Shatnls, a firm In Dublin, have pur
chased (he bankrupt stocks of George
and Alex Flshfish, who recently ran
away, leaving many unpaid debts, ap
proximating 915.000 and 920,000.
The two men paid 72 per cent of the
Invoiced price for the goods, which Is
considered a good sale. It has devel
oped that the right name of the Fish-
fishes Is Knuckles. They changed their
name when they came to America.
They are now In Syria.

Dublin, Ga, Feb. 19.—So far 1.S63
while voters of Laurens county have
registered, which Is less than 50 per
cent of the white voting stvength. Dur
ing the past ten days only 297 have
registered. In Dublin district, where
the voters are In easy reach of the
books, less have registered In propor
tion than In the outlying districts. .The
county campaign Is now warming up,
and It may be that the people will
then see the necessity of registering.
At present there Is an apathy among
the voters that !» hard to explain.
GLENN WOULD ENFORCE
PROHIBITION AT CAPITAL
Washington, Feb. 19.—Former Gov
ernor Robert Glenn, of North Carolina,
in a temperance address last night,
under the 'ahspfces of the Woman'*
Christian Temperance union, said that
If he were mayor of the city of Wash
ington, on a prohibition ticket, he
would guarantee to enforce the law nnd
place every violator In jail or the work-
house. “Your commissioner* nnd your
superintendent of police,” «ald the for

violation of your excise law’*, and
would do the same thing under a pro
hibition law unless you compelled them'
to enforce It.”

fuel are unable to reaMi the mines.
Between Fry berg and Lucinda farmers
are cutting up their fences for fuel. A
food famine ia threatened. In some
parts of Venango county the snow Is
over five feet deep.
