San Francisco.—Eugene Ely, the star
of San Francisco aviation meet. Is
planning to enter the contest for the
$50,000 prise for the first airship flight
from sea to sea. He will make the at
tempt to fly the 5,000 miles from the
Pacific to the Atlantic in one of the
special long distance aeroplanes now
being built.
To Christen Camel.
Macon, Ga.—At the next ceremonial
session of A1 Slhah temple of Mystic
Shriners, which wjjl probably be held

of the baby camel which was born at
the Central City park about two weeks

Middletown, Conn.—That fleas, car

Big Suita Against Roads.
Dacatur, Ala.—In all flfteen law suits,
totaling 32,354,000, have been filed here
in the Morgan county law and equity
court against tho Southern and the
Louisville and Nashville railroads by
the creditors of the defunct cotton Arm
of Knight, Yancey & Co., of Decatur,
which failed last spring with liabilities
at 16.000,000. Connivance on the part of
the railroads is the main grounds set up
for recovery against the railroads.
Crowder Judge Advocate.
Washington.—Tho president today
nominated Colonel E. N. Crowder to be
judge advocate general of the army. He
succeeds Judge Advocate General Da
vis. who will soon be placed on the re
ared list.
Ministers Banqueted.
Macon. Ga.—The Presbyterian min
isters and officers of the live churches
of that denomination in Macon will en
joy a delightful banquet tonight in the
rooms of the First Presbyterian church.
The dinner will be prepared by the
members of the Ladies Aid society.

London.—The Cunard liner Lusitania
docked today with a new eastward rec
ord. She made the trip from New York

the 2.931 nautical miles across the At
lantic. Her average speed was 25.57
knots.

Dover, Dsl.—Separate balloting by
the senate and assembly on United
States senator today showed that Hen
ry A. Dupont, Republican, will be re
elected on joint ballot tomorrow.
Faces Serious Charge.
Rome, Ga.—When Sheriff R. H. Col
lier, of Jackson county, came here to
arrest Edward Hughes on the charge
of assault with Intent to murder his
wife, at Jefferson, he found that Hughes
had married again, wife No. 2 being
Miss Morris, a Rome giri. He was
taken back to Jefferson this morning,
and will have to answer to charges of
bigamy and attempted murder.

Knoxville, Tenn.—Fred Bauman, clerk
In the Third National bank, this morn
ing was chastised with a whip on tho
■reels of Knoxville by John M. Ross,
father of Miss Margaret Ross, who last
week ran away and married W. J.
Cummings, son of a prominent lawyer
of this city. Bauman was a witness to
the ceremony.
Ex-Senator Roelker Dead.
Nsw York.—Former United States
Senator William O. Roelker. of Rhode
Island, died here today, after a brief
Illness. Roelker served as senator from
Rhode Island- In 1905 and was a warm
friend of Senator Nelson W. Aldrich.
After divorcing his first wife, he mar
ried Mrs. CoraJle Coudert Brokaw, the
divorced wife of William Gould Bro
kaw.

Chicago.—Albert Dreuntz, sixteen
years old. was playing hangman when
he fell victim to his own rope. He and
