FOR WEDDING CELEBRATION
Will Be Most Notable Social Event the Capital Has Known For
Half a Century—Dazzling Display of Silver Pres
ents Fills Red Room at White House.
Washington, Juno 19,—With the ar
rival In this city this morning of the
•pedal train bearing the Commercial
Club of Cincinnati ond the luncheon at
noon given by the club to President
Taft, the program for the atlver wed
ding celebration of President and Mrs.
;Teft began.
i All members of the executive house
hold are here for the occasion. The
brilliant decoration of the white house
lawns and the Interior of tho mansion
are complete and with, the promise of
Ideal weather tonight the celebration
will be without exception the most no
table social event Washington has seen
for half a century.
Tive Thousand Queata.
More than 5,000 guests from every
part of the United States will accept
the hospitality of the President and
Mrs. Taft. All trains arriving In this
city yesterday and today brought out-
of-town friends and relatives of tho
distinguished family. They crowded
the hotels, and will tonight mlngto with
the social throng on the grounds of the
mansion.
Hundreds of Presents.
Presents have arrived by the hun
dreds. It Is variously estimated that
sliver to the value of from 115,000 to
tZO.OOO now dlls the red room. This
gorgeous plate cornea from every part
of the United States. Foreign minis
ters have sent gifts, the house and sen
ate, the members of the cabinet, the
president's class and his fraternity at
Yale, the famous Taft Philippine party
and scores of other organisations have
contributed to the beautiful array of
silver.
The luncheon given to the president
today by the Cincinnati Commercial
club took place at tha Chevy Chase
Country club and was attended by more
than 60 persona. All of the hosts were
boyhood friends of tha president, and
all of them have watched with neigh'
horly Interest his career from practle
ing attorney In Cincinnati to tha pres
idency of tha United States.

The white house tonight will be out
lined In fire. Thousands of electric
lights have been strung around every
angle snd cornice.
The trees on the lawn will hold elus
tcrs of light and powerful search lights
from the stats, war and navy buildings
win throw varl-colored rays on the
fountains of the white house grounds.
It la now planned that the receivtni
party will be greeted under a canopied
stand on the west lawn. Mrs. Taft will
be assisted in this by her daughter.

BOYS HIGH SCHOOL 1907
TO ENJOY A BANQUET
The fifth annual banquet of the Boys
High School class of 1907 will be held
at S o'clock Wednesday night at the
Cafe Durand. At the banquet last year,
which was attended by about 30 mem
bers of the class which was graduated
with 61 members. It was decided that In
future a banquet would be held oh the
third Wednesday In June of each year
and ths choosing of the place and menu
was left to the officers. The plates this
year will cost 12 each and every man In
ths class Is urged to attend.
The class of '07 was one of the largest
of Its period to be graduated from the
High school and has. met every year at,
a successful reunlop banquet, In which
every oh* seemed to forget the fact that
‘he was nut of the High school and no
longer connected overy day with the
others. Many of tho men who were
graduated have made splendid records
In college and In business In the short
time since they left the High school.
Carlisle Smith, now playing third
base for Nashville, In the Southern
league, was a member of this class and
starred on the High school team for
three seasons.
Linton Zachry le acting treasurer of
the class and all members who wish to
attend the banquet are urged to call at
Daniel Brothers' store and see hlin
either Monday or Tuesday. The other
officers are: Vernon Stiles, president;
Hugh Fuller, vice president, and How
ard ,Torter, secretary.

ker, a young negro boy, Saturday cut
the throat of Merritt Tate, another ne
gro, because the latter had been guying
him about wearing white durk clothes
For a tlms It was thought Tate would
die, and ths preliminary hearing wan
postponed to see If the charge against
Whitaker should bs stabbing or mur
der. Whitaker le now in fall and Tate,
It la believed, will recover.

SOUTHERN ROAD TRAIN
ST0PS_AT DALTON
Dalton, Qa., June 19—-Today the
"road improvement train," operated by
the Southern road, le In Dalton, this
being the nrst stop made by the train
in the state.
The train consists of lecture and
demonstration coaches and Is accompa
nied by two road-bulldlng experts, D.
It. Winslow and H. C. Wells, of the
united States government. To greet
the train here were the road overseers
of tit* various county districts, togeth
er with the commissioners of roads and
revenue. The treln will spend Tuesday
at Rome.

GIRUSBADLY HURT
Boeton, June 19.—To escape the at
tention! of a chauffeur she had known
but a few hours, Mlee Mildred Fisher,
aged 26, a manicurist, dived from the
automobile to the street' while the ma
chine was seeding 30 miles an hour
today at Bsacon-st. and Charles Gate,
East, and was seriously, perhaps fatal
ly, Injured. She was found unconscious
In the street and was hurried to the
city hospital. —

ration, but frankly stated that a fee of
116,000 for sejvtces previously per
formed had been approved by officials
of the United States Steel Corporation
and was paid to him In October, 1807,
after he had undertaken trust prosecu
tion for the government.

Twenty Thousand Workers to
Attend International Tri
ennial Convention.
Ban Franolseo, Juno 19.—The hotels
of this city are crowded to their ut
most capacity and the thousands of
delegates to the International Sunday
School Triennial convention, which will
open Its seven-day session here tomor
row snd close on Tuesday, June 27. are
busily engaged In searching for quar
tern among the list of boarding houses
supplied by the arrangements commit
tee. Indications arc that this conven
tion's delegates will outnumber those
of any previous organization meeting
in the history of San Francisco, and
will reach, at a conservative estimate,
about 20,000.
Part of the program of exercleea for
the week will Include two big oktdoor
meetings, one In Golden Gate park and
the other at the Hearat Greek theater
In Berkeley.
Every phase of - Sunday echool work
is 4o be treated by specialists at the

convention.

Columbus, Ga- Jun* 19.—While en
route to a tire yesterday. Call Officer
Moore, of the police force, ran over a
dog with hla motorcycle and was
thrown to the pavement, sustaining
very palnrul injuries. He barely es
caped being run over by the Hr* en
gine, which was right behind him.
COLUMBUS IS OPPOSED
TO HOLDING CITY COURT
Columbus, Ga„ Jun* 19,—The board
of trade has adopted resolutions ask
ing the senator and representatives or
