PLAN RAILROAD
TO SPAN AFRICA
French to Spend $600,000,000
for Electrified Line With Its
Power From Lake Tchad.
PARIS. May 4. —A great project for
a French transafrican railway, extend
ing from Tangier to Juba, on the banks
of the Indian ocean, has been revealed
by Senator Gauthier. The cost is esti
mated at $600,000,000. The motive pow
er is to be electricity, generated by
water falls in the neighborhood of Lake
Tchad.
It is pointed out that when the proj
ect is realized the present commercial
status of the Mediterranean will be vir
tually that of a Latin lake, as by far
the shortest route to India and the Far
East will be by the transafrican rail
road. France is especially eager to
carry out the plan so as to compete
with the projected Bagdad railway,
backed by Germany. Ferries will carry
trains over the Strait of Gibraltar.

CROSS, SICK, FEVERISH CHILDREN
NEED GENTLE, THOROUGH GKGKREIS,
Most of the ills childhood are caused by a sour, disordered stomach,
sluggish liver and constipated bowels. They catch cold easily, become cross,
listless, irritable, feverish, restless, tongue coated, don’t eat or sleep well and
need a gentle, though thorough physic—but don't try to force a nauseating
dose of oil into the little one’s already sick stomach—it is cruel, needless
and old-fashioned.
Any child will gladly take Cascarets which . act gently—never gripe or
produce the slightest uneasiness—though cleanses the little one’s svstem,
sweetens the stomach and puts the liver and bowels In a pure, health* condi
tion.
Full directions for children and grown-ups in

$16,000 PROVERB CONTEST
NOW WITH AS GOOD A
CHANCE OF VICTORY AS
ANYONE ELSE
Anyone who has hesitated to enter the Georgian’s
$ 16,000 Proverb Contest under the impression that
one’s chances are diminished if one enters after the con-;
test is on, should revise his or her idea instantly.
One of the most potent and
excellent things about this contest
is the rule “Anyone can enter at
any time.”
There is no reason why “.the
early bird" in this competition
should catch the worm anv more
easily than the later bird, for none
of the solutions are to he sent in
until after the last puzzle picture
has been published, and even then,
ten days or two weeks will he al
lowed for contestants to arrange
t
and review their sets before sub
mitting them.
When you consider that one
third of the total number of puzzle
pictures have been published to
date, you will see there is abun
dance of time for 'you to obtain
the back numbers and have all the
puzzles solved before the time for
delivering them arrives.
A full set of back numbers of
the puzzle pictures and answer
blanks can be obtained by sending
the regular rates of The Georgian
on the days that these pictures
were published—4hat is, 2c each.

mail. Delivery will be prompt.
Thon you can go ahead on an ab
solutely equal footing with all the
other contestants.
