2 HALF OF COUNTIES IN GEORGIA NOMINATE NEW LOCAL OFFICIALS Nominations for county officers were made in 73 of the 146 counties of Georgia —exactly hall the state in the primaries held on Wednesday. The Georgian today prints the first list of these nominees that has been compiled. Several counties made nominations in local primaries before the presidential date. A few others will hold elections for county officers between now and August. The remaining counties will make their nomina tions on the date of the state primaries in August. All of these county nominees will be formally elected when the regular state and county elections are h< ld in October. Washington's influence is at work in Mississippi among the negro dele gates to the Republican national con vention from this state to switch them from Taft to Roosevelt, and some of the administration leaders are begin ning to feel that the?’ made a serious mistake in giving the equal representation on the delegation, ten of the twenty delegates chosen being members of the colored race. It is certain that two of the dele gates—P. AA'. Howard, of Jackson, and’ Charles Banks, cf Mound Bayou—will not vote for Taft, despite the instruc-’ tions of the state convention. Banks is Booker AA’ashington’s closest friend and ally in Mississippi, and is quietl?- at work lining up the negro del egates for Roosevelt. At the time of his selection as dele gate Howard declared himself a Roosevelt supporter, and In an inter view has just declared that nothing has occurs-ed since the district convention to cause him to change his mind. CHICAGO, May 6.—Chicago news paper publishers today prepared to is sue their papers as usual in spite of the strike .of pressmen. stpr?otypers and wagon .drivers. Earl?’ editions of the afternoon papers were run off the presses at the usual time, and thft morning papers in sixteen-page form were printed and distributed. The police today were prepared to give protection to newsboys in the downtown section who sold the news papers against whom the strike was declared. Chief of. The remains of Kendall Hooks. 21 years old, of 113 AVoodward avenue, who died yesterday at a private sani tarium, were sent today’ to Columbia, S. C.. where the funeral and interment will take place. Mr. Hooks is survived by two sisters and' one brother.
