WORKING GIRLS WILL GfflP OUT ————— New Outing Club to Give Sum mer Home to Women and Boys of Atlanta. Plans for purchasing a hundred-acre ■ trcct near Atlanta and erecting cot and buildings "'here Atlanta working girls may sleep at night and spend their week-ends in the fresh country air were begun when the At lanta Outing club was organized with fifteen of the leading men and women of Atlanta as directors. A great summer camp will be opened as soon as the deal for a plot of land is closed. There the boys of Atlanta will also be given a chance to spend a vacation, to breathe fresh air. enjoy the pure, wholesome food and fresh vegetables of the country and disport themselves in an artificial lake. Summer homes for the young men and women of Atlanta who work during the day in crowded offices and factories and for tn* mothers and little children who must spend the heated months in town will be provided Plaee For the Week-End. Those who wish to spend a week's vacation at small cost will be wel comed at the club grounds, and those who desire to make the place their home during the summer and come to their work each day on the street car will find a place. In thio way It is believed that the health and strength of the young working people of Atlanta can be conserved. The largest summer camp for boys ever conducted in Atlanta will be marfbged by George C. Dorr, who has formerly conducted these camps In At lanta and who was chosen at the meet ing All features of the work will be absolutely non-sectarian. Old Boys Club Spilt. The new club is 1n a measure the outgrowth of the former boys camp and boys club organized in Atlanta. Last year a split among the directors and trustees of the boys club was caused by the desire of some of them to affiliate with the Young Men's Chris tian association. Many of the leading men and women in charge believed that such an affiliation would hinder the work and contract Its scope, as a large number of the boys to be benefited by the club are the sons of Italian immi grants—staunch Catholics—and of Russian Jews—whose orthodoxy would not permit their becoming connected with the Young Men’s Christian asso ciation. Dr. Jacobs Heads New One. Dr. Joseph Jacobs will head the new organization as chairman of the board of directors, with James 1., Dickey, Jr, secretary, and T. K. Glenn, treasurer. Under the board of directors will be the officers: W. R. C. Smith, president; Willis M. Everett and Major R. J. Guinn, vice presidents; W B. Wilker son. secretary, and T. K. Glenn, treas urer. I Barred From Theater I Year for Laughing At a Vaudeville Act I CHICAGO, May B.—A few days ago i Municipal Judge Scully sentenced a hair tonic manufacturer to prove the I efficiency of his preparation by a year's trial on the bald pate of Patrolman Burns. Judge Caverly now has gone him one better in ordering a defendant to re main away from theaters for a whole > year because he laughed too much. Frank Farrar went to a vaudeville ; theater to laugh. He laughed so much at a "sister act” that he was arrested i on a charge of disorderly conduct. “It certainly was funny," Farrar said, grinning, when arraigned in court. “My, but it was funny. There were two ac tresses, judge, that called themselves the ‘Charity Sisters,’ and they’d make anybody laugh." Farrar became convulsed with laugh ter at the very thought, and those in the court room began to snicker. “What were the girls doing?” asked the court, Interested. 'They were doing everything you could think of. Ha! ha! hee! haw! I got to laugh every time I think of it.” Farrar laughed until the tears rolled down his cheeks. "You have a right to laugh, but you haven’t a right to disturb the peace,” said the court. “You are discharged, but I want you to stay away from the theater for a year.” ’Til stay away all right," said Far rar.
