PAUL SMITH QUITS
STUDEBAKER AND IS
WITH METZGER CO.
Paul Smith, sales manager of the au
tomobile department of the Studebaker
Corporation, has resigned, and he and
some associates have purchased a large
interest in the Metzger Motor Car Com
pany. makers of the Everitt cars, fours
and sixes. Hereafter he will direct the
sales of that product. The title of first
vice president will also be conferred on
him
No other man in the automobile in
dustry enjoys a greater acquaintance
and popularity than Smith. He Is said
to be the youngest, ‘highest' salaried
and most underpaid” sales manager In
the industry and that he knows every
dealer In the United States by his first
name
Walter E. Flanders, then president
and general manager of the E-M-F
Company, discovered Smith some
years ago, and he has been one of the
small group of men whom Flanders
considered necessary to the success of
any project the big manufacturer and
expert organizer undertook
An interesting angle to the present
move is the fact that Smith allies him
self with B. F. Everitt and William E.
Metzger, the two men who. with Flan
ders. laid the foundation for the. phe
nomenal success of the E-M-F Compa
ny. It will be recalled that the name
of the car E-M-F ”30" was derived from
the initials of the three partners—Ev
eritt. Metzger and Flanders. Early in
the career of the company Everitt and
Metzger sold out for a handsome fig
ure and started the Metzger Motor Car
Company. Later the Morgan interests
bought out the other shareholders and
merged the company with the Stude
bakers.

Hupmobile Agency
Opened in Atlanta
At 222 Peachtree
The popularity of the Hupmobile in
Atlanta and the rapid growth of the
demand for this well known little car,
particularly the impetus added to this
demand by reason of the introduction
of the new “32” long-stroke touring car
and roadster to the Hupmobile line, has
made it advisable for the Hupp Motor
Car Company to have exclusive repre
sentation in this territory. According
ly, they have appointed a» their sole
representative T. J. Bettes, who will
handle Hupmobiles and give service to
owners under the firm name of the
Bettes Motor Car Company, 222-224
Peachtree street. Atlanta, Ga.
Mr. Bettes, although a comparative
stranger in Atlanta, has been associated
for several years with the Hupp Motor
Car Company and Is regarded as one
of the most efficient members of their
sales organization. He has been hand
ling the Hupmobile almost since the
inception of the company; the first car
he sold being No. 88. For the past two
seasons he has been handling Hupmo
biles in the western ’vlichigan territory',
with headquarters at Grand Rapids.
“I find the Hupmobile already a very
popular car in this territory,” said Mr.
Bettes, “but with exclusive representa
tion and special service which we pro
pose to give owners, we hope to make
this car more prominent than ever in
this territory. I wish to emphasize as
strongly as possible the service which I
plan to give Hupmobile owners. We
will keep at al! times a complete stock
of repair parts and will keep the cars
of our customers adjusted and tuned
up to the best possible running condi
tion and give them all the. co-operation
we can to help them get the most eco
nomical mileage and service out of their
cars.”
