The growth of the poultry indus- A try during recent /\.uVlC€ years has been phenomenal. From being, with a few A l'O')')'! exceptions, a by product of the farm, of small il-tp value, and regard- I'lC ed with indiffer ence or totally . neglected, the va- rOUllK\> rious races of poultry have prov- —. ed a source of /J nr fnr profit to agricul turists for eggs, poultry, the prices for which have been Increased very largely. An estimate has been made that the annua! value of the world’s poultry crop exceeds one billion two hundred and fifty million dollars and is rapidly advancing. As a result of these developments, though they are to a greater extent than is commonly supposed due to ed ucational and experimental work, there has been of late years a considerable amount of attention given by the va rious ministries of agriculture, college and experiment stations in different countries to the teaching of an experi mental work in connection with poultry keeping. The problems which neces sarily follow increase and intensifica tion of production are commanding the services of trained investigators and in structors, ahd the work which is being done is of great value. That this will rapidly advance is unquestionable. Such developments have been most marked in the United States. Four years ago the poultry Instructors and investigators of the United States and Canada formed an association for mu tual co-operation and interchange of observations, and experience. The last meeting was held at Orono. Maine, in August. 1911, at which a resolution was adopted in favor of an association em bracing such workers in all the coun tries of the world, the number of which is already considerable. It was felt that by focusing the knowledge and ex perience of all, the power of each would be greatly enhanced. As a result of this action a provi sional committee has been formed, con sisting of representatives of the re spective countries. The following have agreed to serve on this committee: Dominion of Canada—Professor W. R. Graham, Ontario Agricultural col lege, Guelph; F. C. Elford, formerly at Macdonald college. England—Edward Brown. F. E. S. No. 1, secretary National Poultry Or ganization society; Professor F. V. Theobald. M. A. Wye, Kent; C. E. J. Others will be added In due course. Arrangements are being made sot holding the first meeting of the provi sional committee in London, July IS to 24, 1912, at which it is anticipated that the most representative international gathering of poultry teachers and in vestigators ever hejd will assemble. The sessions will be held in the council roon of the Royal Agricultural Society of England, 16 Bedford square. London W.
