EARLY WORKS OF
0. HENJY FOUND
Publisher, Here to See Mrs.
Corra Harris, Tells of Noted
Writer’s Texas Paper.
Peyton Steger, of Doubleday, Page &
Co., publishers, is in Atlanta today, aft
er a call on Mrs. Corra Harris, whose
forthcoming novel probably will be
published bj his company. He spent
several days with Mrs. Harris, who is
visiting friends tn the country near
Cartersville, and they discussed the
new novel, which Mr. Steger thinks
will equal any of the previous works of
the brilliant Georgia author.
Mr. Steger has been at the old home
of O. Henry, the literary genius who
died a short time ago. O. Henry, whose
real name was William Sidney Porter,
was an intimate friend of the publisher,
and Mr. .Steger has been visiting the
story writer’s old haunts in Texas.
“In Austin, hidden away by a woman
who had treasured them, I found 62
copies of ‘The Rolling Stone,’ a little
Weekly paper which O. Henry had pub
lished years ago and long before he
achieved his reputation as America’s
greatest short story writer,” said Mr.
Steger. “Every line in them was writ
ten by Porter, and they were illustrated
with cartoons from his pen. It is not
generally known, but O. Henry was an
unusually clever cartoonist.
"Those old papers proved that Porter
had. even then, the spark which after
ward blossomed into genius. The pa
pers were full of the quaint humor
which marked his later and riper work."
Mr. Steger expects to write a life of
O. Henry which will include a number
of the author’s letters. He gained much
of the material for this work in his tour
of the Southwest. Ade luxe edition of
O. Henry’s stories is to be published
soon by Doubleday, Page & Co.

GIVE BABY A SQUARE DEAL.
URGES CITY OF CHICAGO
CHICAGO. May 29.—The weekly
health bulletin issued by the city ap
pears with numerous paragraphs aimed
at the evils that beset a baby during
its first few months. Among the terse
bits of advice given are:
Baby saving is nation saving; there
fore. baby savers are nation builders.
There is no greater educational need
than that of "how to take care of the
baby.” The old-fashioned way won't
do.
"Stand-patters” argue that in the
» good old times it was a case of "the
survival of the fittest;" progressives
can see in it only "the survival of the
luckiest.”
The baby wants a square deal. It
will be a long time before it gets all
that is coming to it.
Be a progressive—on the baby ques
tion.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
A TRAMP AND A HOBO
CHICAGO, May 29.—A distinction
between a hobo and a tramp is made by
Frank V. Whiting in a communication
published in The Railway Age Ga
zette.
"It is many years;” says Mr, Whit
ing, "since the word 'tramp' escaped
from the vocabulary of most railway
officials and was superseded by that
verj- sentient substitute, hobo.’
"A tramp means one who walks from
place to place, either idly or in search
of work; specifically, an idle wander
er.' ‘Hobo’ is defined as»an idle, shift
less, wandering workman, ranking
scarcely above a tramp.”

WARNING TO USERS OF SO-CALLED
SUPERFLUOUS HAIR “CURES”
Every woman must realize that even
when a soft fuzz is removed by these
so-called superfluous hair “cures,"
which stimulate the growth after each
removal, that it will only be a question
of time before she will have to resort
to the use of the razor, because even
tually’ the hair will become so coarse
that no preparation will be strong
enough to remove it without ruining
the skin.
Why take the risk of disfigurement
by using these unknown and uncertain
means for removing superfluous hair,
when there is such a safe method as
DeMiracle —the one perfected, non
poisonous and harmless depilatory that
dissolves hair, thereby taking the vi
tality out of it, consequently retarding
and preventing an increased growth?
Don't be deceived by the imitator and
impostor who resorts to copying cer
tain phrases of the DeMiracle adver
tising to inveigle you into using a
worthless, poisonous concoction, the
continued use of which will produce
eczema or other serious skin diseases.
When a faker tries to deceive and
delude you by alluring and impossible
claims, tell him that DeMiracle Chem
ical Company will forfeit Five Thou
sand Dollars if it can be proven that
any so-called superfluous hair “cure”
ever eradicated one single growth of
superfluous hair. Insist on proof when
a claim is made that such a prepara
tion is "indorsed by the medical pro
fession.”
To substantiate our claim that De-
Miracle is the only depilatory that has

The mere fact that fake-dangerous
preparations are short-lived should
alone be sufficient warning to avoid the
use of any depilatory but that of proven
merit. DeMiracle has stood the test
of time. It was the largest selling de
pilatory ten years ago and more of it
has been sold each year since than the
combined sales of the nostrums.
All reliable dealers sell and recom

principled ones will tell you they can
not procure it so that they- may more
