May 29.—The clrcum stances attending the recent death of a yH certain pastor. Liebe. for a day or two promised Berliners a story of melodra matic and mysterious interest, but the interest has been dispelled by police in vestigation. The pastor, a retired anny chaplain, aged 70, died suddenly after drinking a liquor glass of what he supposed to be brandy, but, in fact, was the deadly poison, atrophine. His housekeeper was present while he look the drink, but could do nothing toward saving him. The police authorities on making an , investigation of the pastor’s lodgings found what appeared to be one of the most valuable and varied assortments. of gems that could possibly be imag- \ ined. The 1 train, a freight on the Chicago Junc tion railway, was backing In on a stub track. The hose cart, responding tn a fire alarm, tried to cross ahead of the train. The caboose of the train crashed into the cart and jammed it against a bumping post, crushing it like an egg shell. | George J. Lamar, of the I’nited States jW? supreme court, is expected to attend the twenty-seventh annual convention of the Georgia Bar association, which will be held at Tybee on Thursday, Fri day and Saturday. Before his appointment to the su preme bench Justice Lamar was an attorney of Augusta, and took a very active part in the affairs of the Georgia Bar association.
