SUPERFLUOUS HAIR “CURES”
THE NEW YORK WORLD
COMMENTING ON THESE
SO-CALLED “CURES”
Says—They “have numbered their victims by
the hundreds of thousands.”
The New York World, conceded by
journalists everywhere as one of the
I most independent, fearless newspapers
L devoted to the public welfare, published
f an article of interest to women about
depilatories. While it commends very
highly a well known depilatory, it also
point- out the imposition practiced by
unscrupulous manufacturers of so
called superfluous hair “cures." It is
reprinted in part. Read it:
"Unscrupulous manufacturers have
’ played on her faith and ignorance ami
have made their fortunes decade after
decade by publishing erroneous state
ments and unfounded claims concern
ing the alleged efficacy of their meth
ods or agencies to eradicate unneces
sary hair. The vital importance of hav
ing the treatment non-polsonous. anti
septic and germicidal was not recog
nized. The fakes put on the market in
the last ten years have numbered their
i victims by the hundreds of thousands.
Empty promises have been made by
scores of promoters in the wild scram
ble to get the money. The marvel is
that woman has not become so thor
oughly disgusted as to reject all treat
ments for good.
"But her hope for a remedy was not
in vain. » * • only a few years ago
the now well known DeMiracle treat
| merit was brought forth, and it proved
1 I to be a revelation in modern science,
j A representative of The New York
I World investigated the discovery and
I the methods by which it was intro-
I duced to the public. He found exhaus
tive tests have shown it to be the long-
I desired, practical, expeditious and safe
way in which to destroy the growth of
I hair. Those who put it before the pub-
I I lie knew the fallacy and dishonesty of
J1 1 publishing extravagant claims. They

did not resort to any catch schemes,
such as making a prospective customer
a special offer of ’personal interest.'
They started In to win the confidence of
those interested, and in this way they
have been eminently successful.
"The news of its remarkable qualities
spread rapidly. It is now known and
widely used from coast to coast and
from Hudson Bay to the Gulf of Mex
ico. What is more to the point, it has
been indorsed by prominent physicians,
representative medical journals and
leading magazines devoted to woman's
cause. There is too mueh at stake to
risk such Indorsements if they are not
true to the letter. Only the result of
repeated chemical experiments and a
thorough knowledge of the origin of all
hair growth could t land against the In
vestigation of such authorities. The
DeMiracle Chemical Company Is open
and above board in every detail. The
Indorsements are not just claimed. A
little probing on the part of the PAPER
disclosed the fact that they are pub
lished and sent broadcast, with the
Identity and address of the writer or
publication added. This is the stum
bling block df all so-called remedies.
A reputable member of the medical
profession or a publication in good
standing could never afford to be iden
tified with anything that savors of a
fake, and a voluntary praise given
through these channels is not to be
bought with money. It i« given on the
strength of conviction * * ’. There Is
no evidence wanting to prove that De-
Miracle is worthy of its reputation.
• * * It was found by the represen
tative of The World that among promi
nent department and drug stores of
New Yoi k city the use of DeMiracle was
lauded on all sides. The proprietor of
one of the largest of these establish
ments said: 'The sale of DeMiracle is
constantly increasing, and we heat
nothing but praise for it all the time.’
bike expressions were echoed by the
others."
For years we have been cautioning
women against being defrauded by so
called superfluous hair "cures." In
spite of all warning, it seems that some
are always willing to be humbugged
because, as The World says, “The fakes
put on the market in the last ten years
have numbered their victims by the
hundreds of thousands." The mere fact
that fake-dangerous preparations are
short-lived should alone be sufficient
warning to avoid the use of any de
pilatory but that of proven merit.
Don’t be deceived or deluded by al
luring and impossible claims of im
postors. Tell any one of them that De-
Miracle Chemical Company will forfeli
Five Thousand Dollars If It can bi
proven that their so-called superfluous
hair “cures" ever eradicated one single
growth of superfluous hair.
It is astonishing that some women
will take the risk of disfigurement by
using unknown and uncertain means foi
removing these blemishes when there
is such a safe method as DeMiracle
which is? acknowledged by eminent anc
reputable authorities everywhere as the
standard depilatory—the one absolutely
non-poisonous preparation that dis
solves hair, thereby taking the vitality
out of It, consequently retarding and
preventing an increased growth.
If further proof is m eded as to th<
reliability of DeMiracle, no stronger ar
gument can be advanced than the fact
that It Is the only depilatory that hat
stood the test of time
There was more of it sold ten years
ago and there has been more of it sold
each year since than the combined sales
of the nostrums.
All reliable dealers sell and recom
mend DeMiracle, knowing it to be the
best and safest depilatory. Some un
principled ones will tell you they eat
not procure it so that they may more
easily influence you to purchase tneli

Nothing is truer than that success succeeds—and success is made up of/

Because the Mercury in the
Calomel Attacks the Bones
and Develops a Painful
Mercurial Rheumatism.
Calomel is a powerful mercurial drug.
That Is why It is used as a strong pur
gative In obstinate biliousness. The
mercury will crash Into the sour bile,
break it up and throw It off forcibly,
and it Is the shock of the mercury and
the bile coming together that causes
the awfuj nausea, vomiting and some
times even salivation. A shock such
ns this always weakens the system and
leaves It In a susceptible condition, and
in a few weeks there is another bilious
attack and another dose of calomel Is
necessary. It does not require much
reasoning to prove that each bilious
attack roots Into the system a little
deeper and a greater shock Is necessary
to dislodge it. And every dose of calo
mel that you take Is putting mercury
Into your system, and mercury is a
powerful chemical which attacks the
bones and causes a gradual wasting
away, necrosis of the bone, or mercu
rial rheumatism, the most painful and

furthermore, calomel simply throwi
off the stomach the sour fermentation
and leaves the cause In the system tc
make more trouble.
JACOBS' LIVER SALT beats calomel
every way. It contains no mercury; It
flushes the intestinal canal and bowels
and cleanses them of all sourness and
undigested waste; and it dissolves the
uric acid poison which has generated
from the fermenting food that has lain
In the stomach and passes it off in the
urine, thus removing the cause, which
has poisoned the blood and cLagged the
liver, and the liver of itself resumes its
normal activity.
The action of JACOBS’ LIVER SALT
is quick but mild. It contains the same
sulphates that are in the system to di
gest food, stimulating their deficiency,
and consequently it combines easily
with the juices of the stomach and acts
naturally, without griping, nausea or
vomiting.
We claim that JACOBS’ LIVER SALT
Is the best Itver stimulant made. If
you are bilious It will cure you. If you
are well take it and keep well, for ev
ery one's liver Is apt to get Sluggish
occasionally, and prevention is always
better than cure. A glass of Jacobs’
