DECATUR TO OPERATE
PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL
IN RENTED BUILDING
DECATUR. GA.. June 8. —At a. meet
ing of the city council last night it was
decided to rent the Donald Fraser prop
erty and operate a city high school for (
the ensuing year. This brings to a suc
cessful close the movement launched
by the Decatur Boarh of Trade for
founding such a school in Decatur. This *
completes Decatur's equipment as an
educational center and increases its
prestige as a residence town.
Professor E. E. Treadwell, superin
tendent of schools, was re-ele.cted for
the coming year.
The renting of the Donald Fraser
property will relieve congestion in
school buildings and will probably re
sult in the board of education not hav
ing to sell any of the school bonds
which were validated in Judge Roan's
court last week.
TECH ALUMNI
MEMBERS WILL SPEAK
AT BANQUET TONIGHT
The Atlanta Alumni association of
the Georgia School of Technology will
hold a banquet at the Piedmont hotel
at 8:30 o’clock tonight. The speakers’
list includes Hal G. Nowell. Judge
George C. Gober. Dr. M. .Ashby Jones,
W. M. Fambrough, W. B. Miles and
other prominent Tech alumni of the
state. Paul Norcross, of Atlanta, is
president of the association and will
preside at the banquet. The faculty
and senior class will be the guests of
honor. Dr. K. G. Matheson will re
spond to the toast for the school.
TO NAME APPRAISERS
FOR GA. FOREST RESERVE
Three appraisers to decide on the
value of the 32,000 acres of land in
north Georgia being condemned by the
United States government will be ap
pointed by Judge Newman on Monday.
The land is to be purchased through
! the courts from the Geanette brothers,
of Atlanta. It will be used to protect
navigable streams in the district’ by
preserving the forests, and opened as a
national park, similar to Yellowstone.
