6 CUBA SEETHING, RICE ffl NEAR HAVANA, June 21.—Race hatred throughout Cuba is growing in bitter ness and fear increases daily that con ditions have reached such a pass that a general race war can not be avert ed. Loyal newspapers in this city charge that M. Henri Bryois. the French con sul at Santiago de Cuba, has been se cretly giving help to the rebels and that it was he who inspired the procla mation issued by General Antomarchi, the negro insurgent leader, setting a time limit when all whites should be put to the sword. President Gomez may call for the re tirement of the French consul within a few days. Rebel leaders are inflaming their ne gro soldiers against the whites by sto ries of cruelties inflicted. Many of the negroes can not read and therefore rely for their Information upon verbal ad vice. Utilizing this opportunity, the loaders are reporting terrible massa cres by Cuban soldiers to, stir the ne groes to frenzy. GEORGIANS GET PATENTS. WASHINGTON, D. Atlanta, Ga. DELEGATION WILL HONOR BRANTLEY William G. Brantley, congressman from the Eleventh district, member of the ways and means committee of the national house of representatives, and one of the leaders of the house Democ racy in Washington, likely will be named for Georgia’s membership on the platform committee of the. national Democratic convention to meet in Bal timore next Tuesday. This assignment generally is consid ered the most important a state dele gation has at its disposal. It far out ranks, in Its real purposes, the chair manship of the delegation, and It Is. as a rule, the place most eagerly sought by aspiring statesmen. Mr. Brantley has made no sort of effort to obtain this coveted assign ment. He is no more a candidate for it than he was candidate for a place as delegate-at-large in the state con vention. It looks as If he Is to be awarded the honor, however, much after the same fashion In which he was named a delegate-at-large by the vote of the awarding power, without his solicita tion or suggestion. The member of the platform commit tee usually is selected from among such members of a state delegation as are experienced in legislation, learned In party precedents and law, and conser vative In thought and opinion. Upon the rational construction of the party platform theoretically depends the fu ture party victory. IHJii ATLANTA (iKUKIiIAM AMD MEWS. MWAI, JLJNL 21, 191 Z. SNAKE BITE FATAL. BAXLEY. GA., June 21. —Will Black, aged eleven years, while picking black , berries one mile from Baxley, was bit ten by a rattlesnake and died. THE BOY LINCOLN HAD HARD TIME LEARNING Youth of Today Has Knowledge Within Easy Reach That Young “Abe” Worked For, Not only to have the desire to learn —to know' the reason why and the reason wherefor—but to have the bull dog determination and stick-to-lt-ive ness to walk ten miles twice a. day In bitter cold weather is what the boy Lincoln possessed in support of his ambition to become great. Lincoln attained his desire. That he was good as well as great a whole united world will assent to. and no one will deny that but for that learn ing for which he longed and for which he struggled he would have been little known or taken Into account. The struggle to obtain the learning was useful in bhllding Lincoln's char acter, no doubt, but the learning was what was absolutely necessary to his success. The average youth may find plenty of tests of character without doing a marathon after books on mathematics. In the Standard Atlas is enough knowl edge to keep you busy and sufficient ready reference information to meet your needs of the moment. Where Lincoln was forced by cir cumstances to walk miles and spend hours in securing the books he de sired. all The Georgian requires is the clippings of six headings, the payment of a small expense fee to secure this Atlas and the reaching across your desk to use it. Better begin clipping those headings now. ~ l • ■ • '■ A New Sensation! NOT DANGER AHEAD, BUT HAPPINESS- A SAVING MONEY PROPOSITION.
