AT THE THEATERS
GUS EDWARDS’ SONG REVUE
IS FEATURE AT FORSYTH
Tn all the brilliant history of the suc
cesses at the Forsyth, there has never
been a more pleasing announcement than
that the management had arranged for
the first appearance here of Gus Ed
wards, the really famous song writer,
who will head a selected company of
thirty In the presentation of Edwards
Song Revue of 1911-1912.
The act is conceded to be one of the
biggest star features In modern quality
vaudeville and marks the most Important
event that has ever been registered at
thia theater of so much success and ac
eomplishnient. Tn securing the act for
this particular time, when all connecting
theaters have closed for tlie summer time,
the Forsyth management pays round-trip
railroad fares for the company of thirty
people, in addition tn the regular salary
for the. act. which is listed as the highest
price for anj such vaudeville number that
hat yet been booked in any theater.
Tlie Song Revue is produced In six differ
*nt scenes, with fifteen new song bits:
’rem the clever brain of Gus Edwards,
recognized as the most successful author
of popular songs the world has ever
known. The Edwards Sungs have been
*ung all over the world, and are in the
text-books of a great many schools. Tn
vaudeville the author has produced some
of the biggest hits that have been re
corded, and • when he determined to go
on the stage himself he trained a com
pany of youthful proteges, and In New
York scored the most pronounced hit that
has ever been credited to a vaudeville
novelty. Two weeks ago. when Keith
reopened his I'nlnn Square theater, and
the country was combed for a star head
’’r,p feature for that honor. Gus Edwards
ng Revue Was assigned to the posi
n and again recorded a hit that will
<Jly ever be eclipsed.
Jus Edwards himself will be promi
ent in the number and will be ably as
sisted by Lillian Broadman. one of the
cleverest comediennes hi the theatrical
profession. Will P. Cobb and Edward
Madden worked with Mr. Edwards in
making ’he songs that will be heard for
the first lime. and al) the tuneful jin
gles wore written by the celebrated coni-
Wliile this star act Is the biggest fea
ture that the Forsyth has ever presented,
the supporting bill will not he made to
suffer because of the tremendous cost.
There will be five other numbers, making
a bill of six acts, and every one will
count. There is that sort of variety that
has won the admiration of Atlanta thea
tergoers and caused the Forsyth to be
crowded at all performances, and the
Keith offices in making the selections paid
attention to the. detail of variety and a
splendid result seems (o have been ac
complished.
Lida McMillan and company, in a com
edy playlet that has been given the high
est possible indorsement by the reviewers
•'( New York, will be one of the features.
Miss McMillan is supported by two clever
actresses and an actor of ability, and a
playlet that is of unusual interest. She
is a talented and charming, woman, who
possesses a rare personality, and the
number will contribute a great, deal to
the success of the week.
Jarrow. the talkative magician, has vis
ited Atlanta before. He scored a hit at
that lime and since his appearance here
has added much interesting material io
his already entertaining act. .1 arrow per

such a mild sort of manner that he has

This is Cuddles with the Gus Edwards show.
an audience astonished and applauding
before it is realized that he has done
something out of the ordinary.
A novelty will be the contribution of
the Four Soils brothers, in a remarkably
clever musical act. These men will in
troduce some classic and comedy music
on an instrument that is new and novel.
They have attracted great attention all
Over the circuit and will surely register
as strong a hit as any number on the
bill.
Carlin and Penn, Dutch comedians,
promise a treat in a comedy sketch,
treating with the divorce question. There
are no better character comedians in
vaudeville than these two clever actors.
They are presented an act that is en
tirely different from the usual run of Ger
man comedy and will fill in an impor
tant position on the program
Dehnore and Oneida, in a remarkably
clever aerial gymnastic performance, will
be popular. Mlle. Oneida is one of the
prettiest women in vaudeville and a dar
ing entertainer. 'The act is classed as one
of the real star features of all gymnastic
performances.
With Gus Edwards’ Song Revue and its
thirty entertainers and five other sterling
acts, with lots of variety and novelty, it
is predicted that the capacity of the For
syth will be given Its greatest test since
the appearance of Annette Kellermann
just a year ago.
There has been a tremendous advance
sale of seats, and reservations are being
listed for every performance.
FOUR CLEVER ACTS ARE
BOOKED FOR THE BIJOU
Few vaudeville bills that have been
booked for the Bijou in recent years give
such brilliant promise bf good entertain
ment as the one which is announced for
the coining week. Four remarkably clever
acts will be. presented, consisting of West
and Elliott, offering a blackface musi
cal act; Jesse Hall and Company, in a
comedy sketch entitled “The Quitters;”
Norman and Tooney, an exceptionally
clever pair of comedians, and the Aus
traliari wheelers, a comedy bicycle act.
These four acts combine merit and di
versity to a wonderful degree and should
make up a most pleasing and entertain
ing show for the Bijou. Several of these
acts have never been seen in the South
and come with the highest indorsement.
In addition to the vaudeville, a splendid
line of motion pictures will be selected to
open and close each performance. An ad
ditional picture will be given every after
noon, at the 3 o'clock matinee, in addition
to t;ie four vaudeville acts offered every
afternoon. On Saturday, pi'itlnees will be
given at 2:30 and 4 Night shows at

In the rural parts of Schleswig-Hol
stein people do not measure distance
by miles, as we do, or by hours, as in
other parts of Germany. They say that
a place is a pipe, or two pipes or three
pipes, off, according to the number of
pipes one could smoke while walking
there. Shorter distances are reckoned
by dogs’ barks; a village under a mile
away would be two or three dogs’
barks.
A train which left Bolivar, in South
America, for a neighboring town three
years ago has just arrived. The dis
tance covered was 120 kilometers, and
the reason for the delay was a storm
which derailed the train, killed most of
the passengers, and ripped up such a
goodly portion of the railway line that
the company owning it. was forced into
bankruptcy. About six months ago an
American engineer undertook the re
construction of the road, and brought
the long-delayed train to the point for
which it originally started.
