W. Wotberspoon, promoted yesterday from th,, rank of brigadier general, probably will be kept here until after the summer maneu vers at Anniston. Ala , as he Is in ■ barge of al! arrangements as head of the department of the gulf. Where he will go eventually or who his successor will be is a matter of speculation and will not be known un til official orders are issued from Wash ington. He stands a chance of being =ent to Washington. New York, West Point or Texas, to fill one of the va eancies for which appointments are to be made. COUCH OF OCEANIC HOTEL IS ON VISIT TO ATLANTA Jesse N. Couch, manager of the Oceanic hotel at Wrightsville Beach, arrived in Atlanta Tuesday morning and will remain a guest of the Majestic until Thursday night, when he leaves for Wrightsville over the Seaboard Air Line with a large party who w’ifl spend the summer at the Oceanic hotel Mr. Couch is bubbling over with en thusiasm about his hotel and Wrightsville Beach. NEGRO WOMAN AND INFANT IN PERIL OF DROWNING IN HOME In a house at 73 Old Wheat street the wife and new-born baby of Joe Matthews are in danger of being drowned in bed Water has flooded the •structure since the recent rains began. .Matthews, who is a negro porter em. ployed by the H. M. Aahe Company, says he has appealed to the city in vain attempts to have the seweri enlarged so that they will carry off the water. His wife and the two-day-old infant are in such condition that they can not leave the bed about which the water from the street has swirled for several days. Matthews says that unless he can find some way to drain off the flood his family will die when another down fall such as yesterday's descends. Yes. terday six pups in the house were drowned. For ten years Mr. Hines has had one of the largest optica! stores in Savannah, where he has fitted over 25,000 Geor gians with glasses. THREE YOUTHS TAKEN IN RAID ON ALLEGED DIVE AND “DOPE” DEN What is believed by detectives to be a dope joint and blind tiger, where boys use cocaine and drink whisky, has been uncovered by a raid on an up stairs room at 50 1-2 Piedmont ave nue. Three young men—Cliff Brewer, 150 Centra! avenue; Ivan Wlmbish, 169 Chestnut street, and A. J. Fitzgibbon. IS Boulevard place—will be arraigned before Recorder Broyles this afternoon to tell of the mysteries of the room. The raid wa» made as the result of a complaint to Chief of Detectives Lan ford by the son of a prominent Atlanta man, whose name has been connected with the place. This same young man was a star witness a ago against a downtown druggist who was convicted of selling cocaine. He told Judge Broyles at that time that he wanted to break up the sale of cocaine in Atlanta in an effort to save himself and others. A lot of dope needles, as well as whis ky, were found by detectives 1n the room. AUGUSTA’S $1,250,000 BOND ISSUE CARRIES AUGUSTA, GA.. June 25. Augusta voted $1,000,000 bonds for lever purposes, together with $150,000 for a city hospital and SIOO,OOO for improved water works. In a special bond election held here yester day. A two-thirds vote was required and the three Issues carried b> about 200 more than a'two-thirds majority of 2,400 ballots cast, and 109 more than two-thirds of the registered vote of the city.
