The belief is generally preva- A > lent that lice do jti U’VlCf not attack young ■ ducks. This belief . . Is responsible for rrom ’ the death of thou- [ sands of duck lings every yea r, , we are convinced. ' t For the amateur poultry keeper, r; believing that rOUttK}' ducklings are Im mune to this pest, treats the ailing / Jfif'tnr duck for every possible disease and ignores the real trouble. Here is a letter received by the Poul try Doctor the other day: "Please tell me what is killing my Runner ducklings. They sit down and look dull and sleepy, and when they die they throw their heads backward.” Then followed a description of the feed given the ducklings. It was all right, and could hardly have been re sponsible for the trouble. The writer was advised that in all likelihood the ducklings were infested with head lice. Ducklings hatched by hens or run ning with hens should always be treat ed for head lice just as little chickens. R. I. Reds. QIUIJTV reds! j7T~Hosford,' East Point, Ga. 4-25-81 Ducks.
