6 TWOROMERISK FIBMS MERGED Cherokee Life insurance Com pany Now Has Outstanding Policies of $15,000,000. ROME. GA.. JunP 28—Two old line Industrial life companies in Rome — the Rome Life and the Cherokee Life have just consolidated their business, which will be conducted in the future by the Cherokee Life Insurance Com pany. This is the largest merger of in surance interests ever effected In the South, the combined business repre senting the establishment of the first life company writing an industrial busi ness of large proportions south of Vir ginia. Officials of the Cherokee Life say the company now has outstanding about *15.00.000 of Insurance, repre senting a merger of *9,000.00n of in- i eurarice of the Rome Life and about *0,000.000 of Insurance of the Cherokee Life. The combined Industrial debits, according to the officers, give to the i Cherokee Life an annual premium in- i come of *450.000, and its net surplus ; to policyholders, by a consolidation of the assets of the two companies, now' i amounts to more than *500,000. Rth companies recently created ordi- 1 nary life departments and the ordinary ' as well as the industrial business is 1 brought together. The Cherokee Life will continue to operate both ordinary < and industrial departments, seeking to reduce the relative fixed charges of the business by selling both lin»s of life insurance under the one administra tion. Merger Urged by Expert, The absorption of the Rome Life by the Cherogee Life was effected after a thorough investigation by and on the recommendation of Miles M. Dawson, consulting actuary of New York, who was retained by both companies to bring about a merger of interests In an equitable manner. On the opinion of Mr. Dawson, as well as on the opin ion of the managers of both companies, the combination of interests will make for greater and more rapid profit for all interests by the elimination of com- I petition between these two larger in dustrial companies and by drastic eco nomics effected by administering the larger volume of business at substan tially the same fixed charge W. Bonanno will sing "Ebreo,” Appo loni; "Good-Bye.” Tosti; "I’n Ballo dl Maschera,” Verdi, and “Ernani,” Verdi. The concert will begin at 4 o’clock. ■ A Coat of Paint Is extremely thin, but it must bear the bur den of “all outdoors’’ rain, snow, wind, hail and sun; all must be combated. ROAD SETTLES 35 DAMAGE CLAIMS FROM DALTON WRECK CALHyL'N, Gzi.. .tune 28.—The West ern and Atlantic Railroad company has settled 35 claims growing out of the re cent wreck of the Calhoun picnic train near Daltop. All of these claims are for small amounts, ranging from *25 to *SOO The larger claims can ’not be settled, owing to the doubtful and convalescent state of the Injured. The local bar resents the action of sev eral lawyers from other places who have come here and endeavored to persuade people to file suits agaihst the railroad company for damages The Calhoun News has published an article denouncing the outsiders and charging that their efforts are "in violation of section 33 of the criminal code, and against the ethics of the profession.” Chamberlin=Johnson=Dußose Company ATLANTA NEW YORK PARIS Do Not Forget to Come in the Morning for These New Neck Fixings Store Closes at 1 o’Clock Tomorrow I There is a freshness and smartness about this stock of neck fixings that, did women know now what their eyes will quickly show them, we would certainly monopolize the neckwear business of Atlanta tomorrow.
