\ s astic test that
I really proves what a fowl can do in a
j certain section of country.
If it. should prove that the t'arnpines
iat'c a bird well suited to breeding in
the South, they should be of the great-
I cst service to Southern poultrymen, for
they arc a breed of grand utility and
| handsome appearance.
The Belgian t'ampine was admitted
j to The American Standard in 1893, but.
I apparently on account of lack of inter
est. was dropped in 1898. The reason
now given for this by those interested!
is that, at that time, birds imported I
from their native Belgium were too
small, and far below the American I
Ideal as to plumage and fancy points,
and'the Americans didn't have the pa
tience to breed them up.
Belgian t’arnpines have been bred for
many generations for the production
of eggs, regardless of style of feathers.
The hens are non-setters, mature early
and begin to lay young. The climate
of their native country is very trying,
hence it has developed a hardy fowl.
They are always classed as among the
best layers known.
There are two varieties - Silver and
Golden. The Silvers lay large white
eggs, but the Goldens lay tinted eggs.
To produce eggs and lots of them is the
mission of the t’ampine.
The pure Belgian Campine is the
product of centuries of breeding on the
dry, sandy plains of Lat'amplne, where
natural conditions necessitate a con
stant hustle for existence, hence the
resultant small, active bird These
were the birds that were brought to
this country In the last century. The
“New" or “Improved’’ t'ampine has
been dressed in more attractive feath
ers and in reased 1n size, possibly by
the admixture of Braekel blood. The
latter breed Is said to have been of the •
same blood originally, but through be
ing raised on the more fertile soil of
Flanders the birds attained a larger
size. The Brackets bear a striking re
semblance to the t’atnpincs. hut are
larger, coarser and lack the trim ap
pearance. The English type of t'am
pine is said to be about the size of the
i Belgian Bracket
Tiie breed is not especially recom
mended for market purposes, though
Hie chicks are said to be very plump
and excellent as broilers. The flesh of
Ihe mature birds Is delicious.
In size, style and general appearance,
aside from its differently colored
clothes, the Improved t'ampine is much
like the Leghorn, but It Is said to dis
tribute Its egg product more evenly
throughout the year. < >ne breeder
claims that the eggs, average 27 to 30
ounces to the dozen, “or more." and
that flocks “average 175 to 200 eggs
each In 365 consecutive days." We
are told of “individual yields of 250 be
ing reported.” The throe chief points
which are given as commending the
breed are size of egg. number of eggs
laid and hardiness.
The olor of Hie Improved Silver
t'ampine Is described as "a silvery
white ground, overlaid by markings or
barrings of black having a rich beetle
green sheen, except the neck hackle,
which is a silvery white without bar
rings. The dark barrings are much
wider titan the white bars."
The Silver t'arnpines have a very
graceful carriage, and villi their pretty
markings and bright rod single combs,
make very attractive birds. The eyes
arc nearly black, the legs a leaden blue
and Hu- skin white. The Campines are
said to breed very true to color and
type, without resorting to double mat
ing. Their breeders claim that they
arc small feeders—an important point
in these days of high prices.

Land traders are just beginning to realize the profit making op.
portunities of East Lake Road frontage.
We have just closed a sale of 300 feet running back 390 feet near
Oakview, at $4,750, slightly under sl6 a foot. We have also sold
across the street 400x500 at $7,500—a little over $lB a fool.
Land like this will drift on up in successive trades to S4O and SSO
a foot. It is the SPECULATOR’S OPPORTUNITY TODAY.
In one block of East Lake Country Club we have 730 feet for
$9.000 —an entire block of unusual depth. There's money in this kind
of real estate.
FORREST & GEORGE ADAIR
WEST HARRIS "
CLOSE TO LUCKIE. on West Harris. I am offering a piece of
improved investment property that presents an unusually ad
vantageous opportunity for the small investor. This is located
in a section where values are increasing steadily and conserva
tively. The lot is 45x93 feet to an alley; it can be handled for
$3,000.00, and can be bought for less than $200.00 a front foot,
ami the present rental will take care of the interest on the de
ferred .payments. I. predict in view of recent activity and trad
ing in this section that this property will bring $250.00 a front,
foot or better within the next twelve months.
