MISSING GIRL RETURNS
AFTER VISITING FRIEND
MACON, GA., July 3. —Miss Hattie
Belle Speer, the sixteen-year-old girl
whose absence from home had pros
trated her parents and caused the po
lice a fruitless search for four days,
returned last night, saying that she had
spent the time with a girl friend, in
two blocks of police headquarters, and
was ignorant that her supposed disap
pearance had caused so much excite
ment and anxiety.
JUST A LITTLE CALOMEL TODAY MEANS
MORE NEXT MONTH
Because Calomel Never Cures.
It Simply Shocks the System
Into Temporary Action, But
Weakens the Organs.
Calomel is a powerful mercurial drug.
It has the power to crash into the sour
bile on the stomach, work it up and
throw It off. The shock and the work
ing up of the bile forces the liver and
bowels to action, but with this forcible
movement, and the vomiting and the
awful nausea, the whole system is
weakened, the bowels paralyzed, and a
lose of castor oil or strong salts must
, e taken to relax the muscles.
And remember: only the sour bile
.ras been removed from the stomach.
A'hat caused the bile and the constlpa
ion has not been corrected, and in a
'ew weeks you need a stronger dose.

DOG FINDS A WALLET
WHICH HELD $620 CASH
NEW YORK, July 3.—A dog owned
by Mrs. Ruby Lawson, of Worthington,
in Winchester county, found a wallet
containing $620 in Woodland. The dog
was roaming along in the grass near a
road with Mrs. Lawson. She noticed
it had something in its mouth, investi
gated and rescued the wallet.
Cards made it easy to trace the own •

out of his hip pocket while running to

Jacobs' Liver Salt acts upon the liver
as surely as calomel, but by stimula
tion, not force, and it removes the cause
of the trouble. It immediately dis
solves the uric acid poison that has de
posited in the system and carries it off
in the urine. It combines easily with
the chemical juices of the stomach and
flushes the whole intestinal canal and
cleanses it of all impurities. And it
Increases the deficient supply of sul
phates, what Nature uses to digest food
and to prevent the deposit of uric acid.
We consider Jacobs’ Liver Sait the
best remedy that has yet been offered
for a sluggish liver, biliousness, consti
pation, sour stomach, rheumatism, neu
ralgia, and all other ailments of an he
patic nature. It is effervescent and
agreeable, quick to act. mild and sure,
with a wonderfully stimulating effect
upon the liver. Try it, 1-2 lb jar 25c

THE ATLANTA GEORGIAN AND NEWS. WEDNESDAY. JULY 3. 1912.
mu puts BAN
ON WILDI FOURTH
Atlanta to Observe the Nation’s
Birthday at Picnic Parties
and Baseball Games.
Mayor Winn said today he believed
he was expressing the sentiment of the
whole city in urging a safe and sane
celebration of the Fourth.
The mayor notified Chief Beavers
that he might permit the explosion of
crackers and rockets on private prem
ises only, within the city limits.
"There will be no dissension on this
point,” said the mayor, “but to guard
against the recklessness of the thought
less, I will instruct the police to rigidly
enforce the law against the discharge
of fireworks and firearms. I am glad
that the time has come in this country
when we can rejoice on the anniversary
of our Independence without destroying
property and sacrificing little children."
The 1912 Fourth, the day of the birth
of a new national flag with 48 stars,
adding two to commemorate the en
trance into the Union of New Mexico
and Arizona, will be a rather quiet
holiday in Atlanta. It will be observed
only by many picnics and pleasure par
ties and extra baseball games.
To Double Police Watch.
Chief Beavers today issued an or
der to the police calling for a quiet
observance of the day. The order per
mits only the shooting of crackers and
small fireworks, and this in private
yards. No firecrackers or fireworks of
any kind will be tolerated in the streets.
Shortly after the issuance of this or
der, Chief Beavers received a letter
from Mayor Winn suggesting a strict
enforcement of the city laws In this
respect, so as to give Atlanta a safe
and sane Fourth.
“The shooting of fireworks is dan ■
gerous, and the city laws governing this
kind of celebration will be rigidly en
forced," said the chief.
Chief Beavers has also taken preeau.
tions to keep good order. The evening
watch will go on duty at noon, in
stead of 4 o’clock in the afternoon, and
will remain in service until midnight.
The day watch will go on duty at the
regular hour, 8 o’clock in the morning,
but will not come off until 8 o’clock at
night. By this extra duty, double pro
tection will be afforded.
The Daughters of the^ American Rev
olution will hold formal exercises In
heir chapter house on Piedmont ave
at 4 o ! clock in the afternoon.
America” will be sung, the declaration
of independence read and Dr. John E.
White will deliver an address.
Several Picnics Planned.
The greatest expression of the holi
day spirit will be at the baseball park
and at the city parks and numerous
picnic grounds. The Atlanta team has
two games scheduled with Montgomery
—one in the morning and one in the
afternoon.
The sport world also will be enter
tained with extras telling of the Flynn-
Johnson fight.
The Germans of the city will have
a. picnic at Germania park under the
auspices of the Turn Verein. There
will be dancing and fireworks in the
evening.
The Socialists of South Bend will
have a basket dinner in the grove at
the corner of the McDonough road and
Sawtell avenue.
All public buildings and the great
majority of business institutions will
close for a holiday or a half holiday.
FARMERS OF GEORGIA
COMING INTO THEIR
OWN, ASSERTS PRICE
Jitn Price, of Oconee county, can
didate for commissioner of agriculture,
believes the farmer is cutting more ice
■ln Georgia this year than ever before,
or words to that effect. The tiller of
the soil always has been the idol of
the universe just before election day,
but Mr. Price believes the man with
the hoe is about to cash in something
besides oratory.
“Never have I seen a time,” he said,
"when every one was so unanimous in
his effort to help the farmer. The folks
who live in the cities, the bankers,
the capitalists, the merchants, the o
fessional men and the men who con
trol the big corporations, have all come
to a realization of the fact that the
farmer Is the country’s biggest asset—
that at last they are all dependent upon
him, and as he prospers, so do they.
“And 1 tell you this is only a begin
ning, for the time is coming when
even the one-horse farmer is going to
be recognized as the country’s most
important institution."

AsksTo Be Locked Up toAvoidWife
JAIL HUSBAND'S REFUGE
J. C. Thomas, 240 Sells avenue, a con
struction chief, created a scene at the
conclusion of police court today when
he had himself locked in the prisoners'
room to prevent his wife talking to him.'
Mrs. Thomas had just testified against
her husband, accusing him of bestowing
his affection on a red-headed affinity, of
threatening her life, and otherwise mis
treating her.
Thomas was placed on probation and
was seated in the court room while his
wife was outside in Ihe office of Pro
bation Officer Coogler, conferring 'with
the officer. Desiring to speak to her
busband, the wife suddenly came back
into the court room. As Thomas saw her
he leaped to his feet, hurried-to Court
Officer Cornet, and excieimed:
"Lock me up quick, officer. Get me out
of the way. Here comes my wife!"
Turns Deaf Ear to Wife.
The officer feared a scene and ac
comomdated the husband, placing him In
the prisoners’ room and locking the door.
As Thomas started in the door his wife,
who had quickened her steps, called out:
"Hold on a minute, Clint; I want to
speak to you!"
But she was denied this privilege.
Without even looking the fleeing
husband merely shook his head, and
darted into the room in the midst of a
crowd of negroes and other prisoners.
The wife made no further plea. but. with
a vexed look, turned and walked out of
the court room.
When she bad finished her conference
with the probation officer and left the po-

his wife was the cause of the trouble.
He said that for the past, two nights he

Women who bear children and re
main healthy are those who prepare
their systems in advance of baby’s
coming. Unless the mother aids
nature In its pre-natal work the crisis
finds her system unequal to the de
mands made upon it, and she Is often
left with weakened health or chronic
ailments. No remedy Is so truly a
help to nature as Mother’s Friend,
and nd expectant mother should fail
to use it It relieves the pain and
discomfort caused by the strain on
the ligaments, makes pliant and elas
tic those fibres and muscles which
nature is expanding, prevents numb
ness of limbs, and soothes the inflam

being thus prepared by Mother’s
Friend dispels the fear that the crisis
may not be safely met. Mother’s
