A duck under four or five weeks old will drown in an ordi nary lain. ♦ * • Hen mites hatch in dry dirt and filth. Keep the floor clean in warm weather and dust il often with lice killer. Pul some pine tar on the under side of th< roosts. * * * To take a sitting hen off her nest pass your hand down one side of her and let your fingers come up between Iter body and the log. and compress het wing against her side with the palm of the same hand. You can then lift het off witli one hand and put her under your arm, when you can take off an other as easily as the first. I give each feeble looking brood as much of this as they will eat, and find their appe tites much improved. ♦ ♦ « We don’t like that oft-repeated ad vice to clean dirty eggs with a damp ■ loth before marketing them. An egg that lias had its face washed will never have the fresh look of an unwashed one. Better keep them clean, then they won't need washing. • « • When the chicks begin to get large il often happens that the mother hen io greedy and the young do not get enough to eat, as much of the food may be trampled In the dM.
