Il takes a good poultryman to keep
up his enthusiasm when the weather is
hot.
* • •
Unless there is a chance for the cool
air to enter, the trap nests should not
be used this and next month, as the |
hens are apt to suffer from the heat.
« « •
A sprinkling of snuff on the heads
and under the wings of the young
chicks will keep them free of mites.
• » •
When a rain comes, look after the
young ducks. A duck under four or
five weeks old will drown in an ordi
nary' rain.
• • •
Hen mites hatch in dry dirt and filth
Keep the floor clean in warm weather
and dust it often with lice killer Put
some pine tar on the under side of the
roosts.
• • •
Tn Ink* a sitting hen off her nest,
pass your hand down one side of her
and let your fingers come up between
her body and the leg. and compress her
wing against her side with the palm of
the same hand. You can then lift her
off with one hand and put her under
your arm. when you can take off an

When my young chickens look weak
and have not much appetite. I give
them a dose of mix vomica, about a
teaspoonful in enough witter to mix up
n pint of meal for feed. I give each
feeble looking brood as much of this
as they will eat, and find their appe
tites much Improved.
• ♦ ♦
We don't like that oft-repeated ad
vice to dean dirty eggs with a damp
cloth before marketing them. An egg
that has had Its face washed will never
have the frosh look of an unwashed
one. Better keep them clean, then they
won’t need washing.
• • «
When the chicks begin tn get large I’
often happens that the mother hen ,o
greedy and the young do not get enough
to eat. as much of the food may he
trampled hi the dirt. Her maternal
love is waning end she takea a *>ase
advantage < f her strength"? Better feed
them separately If they seem unduly
voracious after being fed.
