As a general rule, the mating of a
| l ock with pullets and a cockerel with
! hens is advisable, the idea being that
j if one side of the mating is of well
matured stock the fertility of the eggs
will be stronger.
Many breeders will not use a pullet
in their breeding yards. It has boon
proved by experiments that eggs laid
by immature pullets, as a rule, will not
hatch as will or produce as strong
ehii ks as those laid by a well matured
lien. It is also a general rule that eggs
laid during the natural breeding season
and nesting time will hatch better and
produce stronger chicks than those that
are produced at other seasons,
