group of friends at a hearts dice party

FUTURE EVENTS
The dinner-dance at the Driving club
tomorrow evening will be a pleasant
break in the monotony of the -season
for the grownups. There will be a
number of parties for supper, one of
these to Include Dr. and Mrs. W. J.
Blalock.' Mr. and Mrs. Clarence May.
Mr and Mrs. E. C. Mr. and
Mrs. George Dexter.
Mr, and Mrs. Milton Dargan will have
a small party, and there will be several
parties of young people dining on the
terrace before the dance.

Miss Helen Barnes, the young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Em
niette Barnes, of Macon, whose presence in Atlanta as the guest
of Mrs. Johij Marshall Slaton, has occasioned much of this week’s ;
entertaining in tt.e younger contingent. Miss Barnes is a popti- '
lar college girl, who will make her debut next winter, or the I
season thereafter.

LIES IN GEORGIA JAIL
MACON, GA.. July 12. —Mrs. Dixie
Jarrett, possessor of a gold bracelet
given in person by the late King Ed
ward. of England, upon the completion
of one of her before-royalty perform
ances. is in Bibb county jail charged
with lunacy, as the result of a warrant
sworn out by a young man named Fred
Haygood, who claims to be her son.
Asserting her sanity in rational
terms. Mrs. Jarrett declares that Hay
good is only an adopted son. and that
he is persecuting her because when she
made her will recently she omitted him.
For fifteen years Mrs Jarrett has
toured the world, giving exhibitions of

has even demonstrated in jail since her
confinement for the benefit of fellow- I

MACONSUBURB DESIRES
TO BECOME PART OF CITY
MACON, G.A., July 12.—Residents of
Cherokee Heights, a populous subu b
of Macon, last night took steps which
may result in annexation The citizens
unanimously petitioned the city coun
cil to annex their territory. Council
will next week ask the legislators from
Bibb to Introduce a bill authorizing an
nexation.

IN HOTEL FOUNTAIN POOL
CHICAGO. July 12.—The large foun
tain in the Pompeiian room of the Con.
gross hotel was used as a bathing pool i
by Sammie Wertheimer, seven years
old, who divested himself of shoes and
stockings and waded agtd tolled with
the goldfish for an hour, delighting
women and men patrons of the hotel.
He was watclTed by his father and
mother. Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Werthei
mer, of New York.

Richmond, where Mr. Adair played in
the tennis tournament.

Miss Nora Brevard, of Macon, left last

noon for Mrs. inman Sanders, of Mem
phis. who Is the guest of her parents.

Master Spencer Wallace Boyd gave
a matinee party st the Forsyth, his
guests including his cousins. Easton
and Douglas Young, of Savannah, and

Mrs. Lee Lewman and little daugh

er. Mrs Samuel Peeples Sparks, have
landed in England, after a delightful
voyage, and are spending some time
in London.
Mr. and Mrs. George C. Speir leave
Atlanta next Tuesday for New York,
whence they sail on Thursday for a
trip abroad. They will travel in Italy,
England. France and Germany, return
ing the latter part of. September.
Judge and Mrs. Spencer Atkinson,
Mr and Mrs. A. J. Orme, Mrs. Emily
Carter Devine and Mrs. Harry Jackson
returned today from a pleasant stay
of two weeks at St. Simons. Mrs. De
vine has returned to’Carters for a stay.
Mrs. J. L. Baird, a, recent bride, who
was formerly Miss Fannile Davies, was
the guest of honor at a tea given by
members of the Round Dozen club at
the Georgian Terrace yesterday after
noon. ,
Miss Irene Lopez entertained at an
informal bridge party of twelve guests
this afternoon for her guest. Miss Bes
sie Ellis, of Cordele. Miss Lopez. Miss
Ellis and Miss Madge Horne leave
Monday for Hendersonville. N. C.,
where they will be chaperoned by Mrs.
D. H. Lopez.

ter McPherron is dead today as the re
sult of being hit by a brick thrown by
Jesse Burrows. The boys were playing
ball when the quarrel began. Burrows
was charged by the coroner's jury with

CHI' AGO. July 12.—Albert Wang,
anxious to be married and have his own
home, took watches from the safe of
Moore & Evans, jewelers. That is the
story he told the police today.
Under arrest. Wang with two detec
tives went to hi. 3 home. Thej' found
prettv aighteen-year-old Mrs. Wang
entertaining friends.
Saying that he had a business deal
on with the men. Wang got some pa
pers and was taken to the police sta
tion. His speculations, ft is asserted,
have netted about $4,000.
Wang was a. confidential clerk and
had access to the safe where the watch
es were kept. They were shipped to
New York and sold at auction.
