MRS. RORERI F. One of Atlanta s Most Charming Hostesses
Pleasure Trips
Here and Abroad
Are Planned
by Atlantans
AUGUST and September are the
quietest months for Southern so
ciety. The June bride adds In
terest to the season for awhile and
the gay college girl and boy contingent
occasion much entertaining during the
first several weeks, after the close of
the college season. By August, most
of the people who are to take trips of
any duration have left the city, and
through September, there is little of
Interest to record among the doings of
the fashionable world, except the go
ings and comings.
There is no particularly popular
place where Atlantans or Southern
ers congregate for the warm months,
as in the palmy days of the Green
briar White, still popular, but partial
ly eclipsed by the numerous Caro
lina resorts and the seashore places.
Many Atlantans will spend August In
Toxaway, a favorite with the people of
this section of the country. Toxaway
affords amusement for the devotees of
tennis and golf. Horseback riding and
motoring through the Sapphire coun
try and boating on the broad lake are
other pleasures of Toxaway. The so
cial life is interesting, too, for dancing
and bridge parties are incidents of ev
ery day. Miss Margaret rr-rvklns and
Miss Eula Jackson will be belles of
Toxaway during August. They leave
on the first, and will be chaperoned
by Mrs. Frank Hawkins. Other pop
ular Atlanta girls who will be there for
August are Misses Helen Dargan and
Annie Lee McKenzie, who will be
chaperoned by Mrs. Milton Dargan.
Mrs. Wlnshlp Nunnally and Mrs. Hun
ter Cooper ar» at Toxaway and Mr.
and Mrs. Frank Inman leave next
week.
Pleasure For Surf Bathers.
To those fond of surf bathing and
the pleasures peculiar to a seashore re
sort, Wrightsville and iSt. Simon’s of
fer a strong appeal. Atlanta Is well
represented at both of these places.
The fine motoring roads to Warm
Springs and Indian Springs are in
centives for short trips to these places.
At Warm Springs the bathing is much
enjoyed, and the dances and other so
cial recreations are exceptionally en
joyable. The cottages there, mostly
representative people from Columbus
and other towns, add a charm to the
social life at Warm Springs, and the
mountain drives and scenery Is de
lightful. Tate Springs always claims
a portion of Atlanta’s summer visitors,
and., of course, many go to Atlantic
City.''
Dr. and Mrs. William J. Blalock are
among the few Atlantans rvho have
planned a M'estern visit this year. They
leave about the middle of August for
Colorado, with Colorado Springs as an
objective point. Mr. and Mrs. Henry
Francos West will take a summer
Jaunt in Colorado also.
Mrs. Porter King and Miss Carolyn
King will take a motoring tour in the
East during August. They leave on
the Ist for Virginia, tljence to Phil
adelphia, where they join a party of
friends for the motoring tour, at the
close of which they go to Atlantic City.
Their plans will keep Mrs. King and
her pretty daughter out of the city
until some time in October.
Trips to the Mountains.
Miss Julia Richardson expects to
visit Miss Margaret Disosway, who is
spending the summer at Black Moun
tain. N. <’.. during August or early Sep
tember. Her sister, MJss Katherine
Richardson, after a winter at Santiago,
Cuba, and a .short stay at home, has
gone to Carolina to visit Miss Dis
sosway.
Misses Laura and Mamie Ansley and
Mignon and Margaret McCarty, who
are with their parents at Morehead
City, remain another week, after which
they return home for a stay.
Miss Martha Francis is spending the
summer at Flat Rock, where Mr. and
Mrs. Alexander King have a summer
home. Mrs. J. P. H Akers and Mrs.
William Percy are at Brevard. N. C.
Miss Gladys Glover is at Highlands,
N. C.
The Atlantans who elect to visit the
old World during the next few months
have planned interesting tours. A trip
up the Rhine, and a coaching tour
through England and Scotland are
features of the tour to be taken by
Misses Aimee Hunnicutt, Jennie Knox
and Caro Sharpe, who sail from New
York next week, chaperoned by Mrs.
Frank Logan. A party sailing next
week, which Is composed of Mr. and
Mrs. H. L. Manson, Miss Ruth Hull,
Mr. and Mrs. Doughty Manley and Mr.
and Mrs. Dudley Cowles, are looking
forw’ard to a visit to Pompeii, in which
they are especially Interested. They will
visit the cities of Italy, and will also
take the Rhine trip. Mr. and Mrs. M.
Rich, who go abroad every summer,
will spend their time In Berlin anti
other 'German cities, with a stay in
Paris and at some of the Channing
French coast resorts
Will Visit European Resorts.
Miss Mary King, nn Atlanta girl now
traveling with a party of friends from
Savannah, has written interesting ac
counts of her travels to her friends at
home. Miss King and her party touch
ed the African coast, at Algiers, where
they got a glimpse of a fascinating and
novel people. Miss King is to have an
unusually fine. tour. She has already
seen the beauties of Seville, Cadiz,
Madrid and later will visit the repre
sentative cities of Italy and Getmany.
< ictobor is to be speht**Tn England,
Scotland and Ireland.
Tin Henley Regetta was a most in
teresting feature of Miss Nancy
Prince's recent experiences abroad In
company with a party of friends, Miss
Prince attended this historic sporting
event. Miss Prince's party, in which
are two other Atlanta young women,
Misses Alma. Stanley and Lillian Flynn,
are now In Paris, after a stay in Lon
don,
