Box 143, Austell, Ga. 6-29-46 Georgian Want Ads Get Results Poultry, Pet and Live Stock. When a man goes into the A j poultry business navice on a commercial basis, he seeks the « most profitable breed as a starter. -* ' Therefore, after looking over the f l, market conditions z//c in your vicinity, if it Is found there / Lnii p nXa call - v an Poultry unlimited mantel ' 7 for the very best quality of white shelled table eggs, *— t'/f as well as for lightweight broilers of a good quality of meat, the one breed that would ful fill all these requirements and have other advantages besides is the Single Comb White Leghorns. That Single Comb White Leghorn* are premier layers is acknowledged; in fact, the laying qualities of the other breeds are generally reckoned by using the Leghorns as the standard high wa ter mark. There is a mistaken idea that Leghorns lay a small egg as com pared with other breeds. While a few stray flocks of poorly developed Leg horns may not lay a large egg. with proper breeding and proper feeding, Legtjorns lay as large an egg as any of the heavier breeds. It is no uncommon thing to get a dozen eggs weighing 25 1-2 to 26 1-2 ounces, and all the eggs should average at least 24 ounces to the dozen. Single Comb White Leghorns are "hustlers" from the time they leave the shell, and because of this activity are comparatively easy to raise as ichicks. There is very little danger of Leghorn chicks getting leg weakness from lack of exercise, as they continually keep “on the go" the whole day long This not only keeps their digestive organs in good shape, but enables one to hatch them earlier in the season without dan ger of their becoming chilled. Because of the rapidity of their feathering out. Leghorns can also be hatched quite late and will make sufficient growth of feathers to keep them from chilling in the fall and early winter, and these late hatched chicks will begin to lay in the spring and continue to lay heavily all through, the summer and even after the older birds have started to moult.
