Pouftry, Pet and Live Stock Poultry ' popu , lailty got-f by ; waves. Time was i when there was i nothing to the ; poultry business I if you did not own Barred Plymouth Rocks The <)r --< pington craze was well remembered i Eoi a time the : Rhode Island Reds iwe r e Amerlca’s ■ most p <> p u 1 a r ■ fowls. This sea- ■ a»n has been a White Indian Runner duck year. The men who bred White Runners «ere swept clean of eggs and stock. Prices went soaring out of all reason. Everybody felt they Just must t.tve White Runners. And they bought them as long as the supply list ed. The wise folks of the poultry indus try now are predicting to a man that next year is to be a Partridge Plymouth i Rock year. One thing is certain no breed has , ever enjoyed a real craze that did not have a lot of merit. And it is because of their good characteristics that the Partridge Plymouth Rocks are threat ening to sweep the country, even as the Reds and the Orpingtons swept if in the past. Like the Reds, the Barred Rocks and the Orpingtons, the Partridge Plym outh Rocks are "general purpose" fowls. Titty are foi botii eggs and meat. They ate both beautiful and useful. S. A. Noftzger originated the breed, and he did it because he wished to pre serve the marvelous beauty of par tridge coloring In some fowl of medium size ami unquestioned utility. He had a tremendous time in breeding the Par tridge Rot ks. and it was only after years and years of patient work that he got them established and breeding true to type. There is no question of the beauty of the partridge coloring, anti when it Is combined with the Rock shape It fur nishes a bird that is unequaled in ap pearan e. Their coloring Is handsome, but it is a useful color. It Is so dark that it does not “show dirt." and ft can be exhibited without washing —a tre mendous advantage over the light col ored breeds. The egg-iaying ability of the Par tridge Plymouth Rocks is unquestioned. The year the breed was admitted to the standard a pen of Partridge Plymouth Rocks won one of the largest and most Important egg-laying contests ever held in America. The Partridge Plymouth Rocks are oxtieinel} hardy birds. The young, which lotik for all the world like husky partridges, are lively and grand for agers. They can stand any ordinary sorts of abuse and grow and prosper • ven under adverse conditions. They mature rapidly and develop to broiling size as rapidly as ant breed Their skin Is white and their flesh unequnled in flavor. The fact that far-sighted breeders, who attempt always to keep one stop In advance of popular favor, laid in a supply of Partridge Plymouth Hocks this year, and that they will bo ready to meet a big demand for eggs next spring is an indication in itself that their popularity is growing. Next year is very sure to be a Par tridge Plymouth Rock year throughout the United States. R I. Reds I M ITT REDS J. I Hosford.
