There is more than $250,000 invested 1n the maihiner? which is to be used for exhibition purposes and more than that amount is invested in the goodsam exhibit by other manufacturers who could not find it practicable to show their machinery in actual operation. The total number of exhibits is 55, covering about .30.000 square feet of floor space and representing $500,000. Everything shown is made right here by Atlanta people, "ho are taking ad vantage of the opportunity' of educat ing the home folk as to the many and varied articles manufactured here. The doors of the exposition will be thrown open to the public at 7 o'clock tonight, and at S o'clock the show will he formally opened For the next ten day s the doors will be open from* 2.30 o'clock in the afternoon until ‘lO o'clock at night. . ANOTHER NEGRO IS JAILED AT CALHOUN FOR PLAINVILLE RIOT CALHOUN. GA. July 31.—A negro, believed to be one of those escaping from the section house in which ne groes barricaded themselves in the re cent race clash at Plainville, has been arrested and lodged in the county Jail hete with the other ten who were cap tured by the posse which surrounded the house The negro came to Calhoun and endeavored to get possession of a shotgun and ammunition. Officers be lieved he was trying to organize a res cue party to storm the Jail and release the rioters confined there, so he was Imprisoned. » The situation remains quiet at Plain ville and in the surrounding country, and it is likely that there will be no further trouble JOHNSTON MONUMENT TO BE DEDICATED OCTOBER 24 DALTON, GA., July 31.—The com mittee in charge of the project to erect a monument here to commemorate the deeds of General Joseph E. Johnston has determined to have the dedication of the monument on Thursday, October 24, and w ill arrange an impressive cer emony for the occasion. The commit tee has not definitely determined on whom they will invite to make the dedicatory address. Work on the base of the monument will be started immediately. The base will be of granite, surmbunted by a bronze figure of the distinguished Southern general, and will be stationed in a small park in the center of Craw ford street just north of the postoffice. HE LEASES BIG HOTEL FOR ONLY TEN MINUTES LAKE GEORGE. N. Y. July 31. — John McGlynn, president of the State Hotel Men’s association, in an inter view here told of a lease that was signed by him for the Grand Union hotel.at Saratoga for a term of years at the Knickerbocker hotel. New York, on Thursday, July 25, at 12:55 p. m. MORE REFUGEES' FLOCK TOJORDER Mexican Rebels Continue Loot ing and Robbing Homes Abandoned for Safety. EL PASO, TEXAS. July 31.—A1l Americans are fleeing from northern Mexico to El Paso. The Mormons started the exodus, but the trains last night and today' brought Americans from other settlements than those of the Mormons, all telling the same story of confiscation of arms, abuse, theft of cattle, farm products, wagons, horses and other things movable. Many de clare that they were held up and fobbed of their money while making their way to the railroad. Two men who held up and robbed George Redd, a ..Mormon. on Sunday, were executed by orders of General Salazar, who declared he would have no bandits in the rebel army. Later he issued orders to take bedding and food I from the .Mormons' homes abandoned by the families who fled for safety when their arms were taken. Night prowlers are following the rebels. The federals'have been driven back into Sonora from their attempt to trap the rebels. The latter now have all of western Chihuahua at their mercy. It will be weeks before the fedeial army i from Chihuahua can work its way into' the vicinity of Casas Grandes. Pearson, Madera and Corralitos, where the reb els have been robbing Americans of their fire arms. Federal® Beaten Back. The commands of Generals' Hanjines and Blanco, which for a month were working their way across the continental divide from Sonora into Chihuahua, have been whipped back by the rebels and thus the fede al .ef fort to get the rebel army between two fires has failed. The retreat of the federals leaves Sonora open to the rebels. Felder to prosecute the men who flogged Essie Carter at Dawson on July 20. It is expected that Judge W. <’. Worrill will call a special grand jury to investigate the affair and. if Indictments are returned it Is the hope of the attorneys for the girl tnat the attorney general, in behalf of the state, will conduct the prosecutitffi. 'A bloody conflict is imminent between 10.000 armed miners and 500 militia men in the Creek coal district. Shortly before midnight a detach ment of 24 soldiers sent to that dis trict to preserve order was fired on from ambush and three of the soldier? wounded. Two thousand miners in battle array started at dawn through the mountains to Sterling, in Boone county, determined to drive out the guards about the workings of the Hickory Coal Company. Three hundred and fifty national guardsmen w ere ordered to follow their trail. Along the route there was desul tory firing from ambush at the soldiers, which impeded their progress toward the miners. The miners declared their put pose was to drive out the guards whom the operators refused to dismiss in spite of the fact that the militia is on the scene to protect their property Every miner in the restrict is armed. Hundreds of rifles have been sent into the coal region from Charleston during the past few days. Health is the foundation of all good looks.
