NOSPECIALPROBE
DF GIRL FLOGGING
Judge Worrill Will Not Convene
Terrell Grand Jury to Inves
tigate Whipping.
MACON. GA., Aug. 7.—Judge W. C.
Worrill will not convene a special ses
sion of the Terrell county grand jury to
Investigate the recent flogging of Essie
Carter by W. S. Dozier at Dawson. He
was requested to have an immediate
'inquiry made into this affair by Essie
Carter’s Macon attorney, but he will
not accede to the request.
It is said that Judge Worrill thinks
the ease should be tried in the Dawson
city court, if taken up at all. as Dozier,
if guilty. Is only guilty of a misde
meanor charge
Solicitor Laing, of the Pataula cir
cuit, has written the young woman’s
attorney extending him an invitation
to assist in the prosecution, which in
dicates that this official contemplates
bringing the matter to the attention of
the next grand jury in November.

NO SCHOOL KISSING HERE
Dispatches from New Orleans an

Commissioner James E. Warren. "As
a matter of fact the kissing among
teachers and pupils here is so rare that
the passing of such a regulation would
be entirely superfluous Though we
have no prohibition of osculation in the

between teachers and pupils have been
discouraged from the outset. That has
been done for sanitary reasons in the

do not believe favoritism should have
any place in the schools. Why. the
children are even asked not to present
their instructors with flowers.
“What little ’school kissing’ is done
in Atlanta is confined to high school
girl chums and even these little oscu

the cheeks instead of upon the lips.
"If kissing of teachers by pupils and
vice versa were at all prevalent in the

would take instant measures to stop it.

COUNTY HEALTH
OFFICER MEO
Bill Creating Bureau Has Good
Chance to Pass This Session
of Legislature.
The movement to establish a county
health office for Fulton county with
the express purpose in view of fighting
tuberculosis and typhoid fever among
children, particularly, is receiving
strong support from all sides and the
necessary bill stands a good chance of
passing at this session of the legisla
ture.
Governor Brown has come out with
an indorsement of the idea which has
also the O. K. of the Rockefeller sani
tary commission, at Washington.
Dr. James C. Oakshette, 404 Oakland
avenue, has been the principal mover
in getting the bill before the attention
of the people and he is being aided by
numbers of others. T. C. Butler. Jr.,
391 Oakland avenue, also has been ac
tive in supporting the bill.
Mr. Butler in a card to The Georgian
says that there is a-distressing lack of
sanitation on the farms around At
lanta. He says that on the main trav
eled roads conditions may be different,
but that in the back roads and down
country lanes conditions are such that
he wonders that more children do not
die of typhoid fever each summer.
COTTON CROP IN SOUTH •
GEORGIA NEAR AVERAGE
THOMASVILLE, GA.. Aug. 7.—The
cotton season here will be much ear
lier than was expected and probably
will open about the 20th of the month.
Contrary to predictions, the crop will
be nearly an average one. On the
whole, the yield is going to be good.
The hot weather of the past few weeks
made the plant grow rapidly, and the
bolls are opening fast. With rains re
cently, it is in fine condition.
RECORD TARPON CAUGHT
OFF THE TEXAS COAST
PORT ARANSAS. TEXAS. Aug 7.
H. B. Webster, of Waco, Texas, landed
the world's largest record for tarpon
after a desperate struggle lasting nine
hours.
Webster got the strike soon after
daylight, using a light tackle. He and
the boatmen were so fatigued when the
tarpon was landed they could hardly
make their way to shore. The "silver

Healthy d-s.
Women who bear children and re
main healthy are those who prepare
their systems in advance of baby’s
coming. Unless the mother aids
nature in its pre-natal work the crisis
finds her system unequal to the de
mands made upon it, and she is often
left with weakened health or chronic
aliments. No remedy is so truly a
help to nature as Mother's Friend,
and no expectant mother should fall
to use it. It relieves the pain and
discomfort caused by the strain on
the ligaments, makes pliant and elas
tic those fibres and muscles which
nature is expanding, prevents numb
ness of limbs, and soothes the inflam
mation of breast glands. The system
being thus prepared by Mother’s
Friend dispels the fear that the crisis
may not be safely met Mother’s
Friend assures a speedy and complete
recovery for the mother, and she Is
left a healthy woman to enjoy the
rearing of her
