Mrs. Dana Guest
of Honor at
Luncheon
A pink rose luncheon was tendered
Mrs. Charles A. Dana, of. New York,
a feted visitor in the city, by her sis
ter, Mrs. Frank Adair, this afternoon.
The handsomely appointed luncheon
table' was beautifully decorated for the
affair. The centerpiece was a large sil
ver basket filled with pink roses. At
the ends of the table stood two silver
baskets of the same flowers. Alternat
ing with the baskets of roses were sil
ver candlesticks, tipped with pink rose
shades. About the table were placed
almond cups in the form of full-blown
pink roses, and silver compotes held
rose colored bonbons and mints. The
place cards bore pink roses in water
color sketches, and the group of love
ly young women, tn their pretty gowns,
suggested the pink rose idea, quite as
much as did the effective decorations.
Mrs. Dana wore a handsome French
toilet of white lingerie, made of dainty
hand-embroidered filet and Irish lace.
Mrs. Adair, the hostess, was gowned in
white chiffon serge, elaborate with
flounces and garniture of chantilly.
The guests. who included eight
friends of the hostess and honoree,
were beautifully gowned.
Mrs. Robert Lee Cooney wore white
voile trimmed in Irish lace and em
broidery, with a picture hat in black.
Mrs. Edwin Johnson wore shell pink
marquisette trimmed in pink taffeta
bands, a sash of black chiffon giving
a chic air to the gown. The hat worn
with this costume was of black chif
fon adorned with a yellow bird of par
adise.
Mrs. Phinizy Calhoun was charming
ly gowned in black charmeuse satin,
fashioned on slender and simple lines,
with deep cuffs and fichu collar of
lace. In harmony with the picturesque
costume was the hat of black hemp
trimmed in black plumes.
Mrs. R. T. Dorsey's white lingerie
gown was worn under a smart coat of
blue taffeta, and her hat was a picture
mqdel of black tulle.
Mrs. Charles Remsen’s gray satin
gown had a blouse of soft blue chifr
son embroidered in blue beads veiling
the gray satin, underbodice of the
same materia! as the draped skirt. Her
hat of black was adorned with cream
colored plumes.
Mrs. Andrew Calhoun wore white lin
gerie. the skirt and corsage hand em
broidered in a design of chrysanthe
mums and trimmed in filet and Irish
laces. Her black leghorn hat was
trimmed in roses shading from pale
pink to rose color.
Miss Elizabeth Adair was gowned in
changeable taffeta showing shades of
brown on the corsage, and trimmed in
lace. Her hat was of black.
Miss Harrle Stockdell wore white
marquisette combined with Irish lace,
and a black picture hat trimmed in
white uncurled ostrich plumes.
MERCHANT OF COLUMBUS
MYSTERIOUSLY MISSING
COLUMBUS. GA., Aug. 9.—J. C.
Howell, a well known commission mer
chant of this city, has been missing
for several weeks and relatives and
friends here are becoming alarmed over
his whereabouts. When he left the city
he stated that he was going to Cusse
ta to visit relatives, but when he did |
not return at the appointed time in
quiry was made at Cusseta to learn if
he had been there, and it was ascer
tained that his relatives there knew
nothing of him. So far as known, his
business affairs are straight, and as he
was a leading church worker, there is
no cause that can be assigned as to
why he should have left the city so
mysteriously.
