CONGRESS, ■ DONE, > il Deadlock Over Appropriation Bill Ended, and Adjournment Is Planned for Saturday. WASHINGTON, Aug. 22.—With the legislative appropriation bill ready for Its third journey to the white house, prospects for adjournment were bright er today, and a determined effort will be made in the senate and house to end the present session of congress next Saturday night. It is believed the pres ident will sign the legislative bill in its present form, now that the house has reluctantly yielded on the commerce court provision in the measure. The breaking of the deadlock over the legislative bill operates for a more speedy adjournment. Congress now has three days remaining this week In which to adopt conference reports on the In dian bill, the postoffice bill, the sundry civil bill and the army bill, an agree ment upon which will practically clear up the important matters now hanging fire, work on private bills and public resolutions passed kinder a suspension of the rules being a clearing up of the calendar. Congressman Curley, the newly appointed assistant Democratic whip, continued his efforts today to keep a quorum in town, and issued a warning that no member could justify his absence in the closing days of the cession. Burns, the famous detective, the crazed stranger who had been held in the po lice station since Monday as an “un known.” today was identified as Harry Shehan, of New York city. The identi fication was made by Special Detective Kyle, of the Piedmont hotel, who said Shehan had been in the employ of the hotel. The stranger has been transferred from the police station to the Tower following a heating before Recorder Broyles. The recorder held him for vagrancy, in order that he might re main in jail pending an investigation of his sanity. Men willing to shoot • • Mirkovitch could not be found. • WOMAN BEATING MAN PLEADS SELF-DEFENSE CHICAGO, Aug. 22.—John Ciba 2417 West Twenty-first place, is in the coun ty hospital, and Mrs. Francis Wanleh zik, residing at the same address, is being held at the South Clark street police annex as the result of a quarrel at the home of the man. Ciba told the police the woman struck him over the head with a stick of wood. It is feared that his skull is fractured. The wom an said she hit Ciba in self-defense. PASTORS ARE DRAFTED SUNDAY FOR THRASHING ANDERSON, IND., Aug. 22.—Church services were suspended and ministers were drafted into the work of thrash ing in many rural neighborhoods in this vicinity Sunday in an effort to save oats which had molded in the fields, owing to the continued wet weather.
