Motor Journeys
Are Popular
With Atlanta
Folks
\ A many Atlantans have
yy left the city for the sum
mer, and one notices many
closed houses on the principal
streets of the city, whose owners
are spending the warm months at
seashore or mountains, there are *
number who remain at home, ex
cept for the week-end motor trips
which form a pleasant break in the
season of social quietude.
For some persons the short week
end trip proves more enjoyable
than the extended stay. Congenial
parties of friends leave each week
end for a trip to the many nearby
resorts, where compensating and
delightful people are always to be
found. The many attractive re
sorts near Atlanta are reached by
splendid roads, and in front of the
hotels can be seen, on any Saturday
night, a long line of motors, whose
owners have made the trip in rec
ord time.
Among the enthusiastic motor
ists of the city are Mr. and Mrs.
AVilliam Lawson Peel, who do not
confine their trips to nearby points,
but take long trips in their touring
car. Mr. and Mrs. John Grant and
family are spending their summer
abroad, and are taking a number of
Interesting motor trips on the con
tinent. Mr. and Mrs. George Mc-
Kenzie, Miss Annie Lee McKenzie
and Mr. AVilliam McKenzie left this
week for a motor trip through New
England. They will visit many of
the Eastern resorts and will remain
away until October. Mr. and Mrs.
Ernest Woodruff and their sons
have recently returned home, after
a trip to the East and through
Canada, which they made in their
touring car. Mr. and Mrs. Gus
Dodd and Mr. and Mrs. Lee Hagan
have returned from a motor trip
which included a stay of four
weeks, during which short stops
were made at Bretton AA’oods,
N. H., Poland Springs, Asbury
Park, Atlantic City and Long
Branch.

car, and have just returned home
from Warm Springs. Mr. and Mrs.
Junius G. Oglesby and Mr. and
Mrs. Junius G. Oglesby, Jr., have
visited many of the nearby resorts
on week-end trips the past few
weeks. Mr. and Mrs. Adam Jones

touring car, traveling home by
horseback.
A recentfmotor party was ten
dered two young visitors from New
York, Mr. Morgan Pierce and Mr.
Robert Clarke, by their host, Mr.
Robin Adair. The party, who made
the trip to Indian Springs in two
automobiles, was chaperoned "bv
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Adair, and in
cluded Miss Dorothy Judkins of
New York, Miss Leone Ladson,
Miss Lucile Kuhrt, Mr. Mox Pierce,
Mr. Clarke, Mr. Hunter Perry and
Mr. Robert Troutman. The party
attended the dance at the Wigwam,

water, with an old mill adding to
the beauty of the place.
Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Black make
many short motor trips during the
summer months. Mr. Edward Al
frfend Is an enthusiastic motorist
and makes many interesting jour
neys in one of his four cars.
Delightful Short Trips.
Por those who do not care for
the more lengthy motor trips there
are many delightful rides fp be
taken near at hand. One of the
prettiest of these Is to Marietta,
where a beautiful view can be had
of Kennesaw mountain, and a visit
made to the Martha Berry tavern.
Before reaching Marietta one
crosses the river, which is pic
turesque with jutting rocks and
shoals.
Paces Ferry road leads one
through a colony of very handsome
summer homes. The Brookhaven
club Is a popular rendezvous on
the north side, and the country
club at East Lake is reached by a
splendid boulevard.
A charming objective point for a
south side ride is Fort McPherson,
where the dress parades draw
many motorists on sunny after
noons. v The post is always the cen
ter of a very delightful social life,
and when the parade is over the
officers and their wives are always
at home informally to their friends.
Stewart avenue and Hapeville
a ft* favorite objective points with
many, and the ever popular Pied
mont Driving club is the rendez
vous for dozens of motor parties
each day of the week
A trip to Roswell, the pictur
