MAILFLIRTATIONS
DNTHEOECREASE
New General Delivery Rule
Causes Many Girls to Drop
Secret Love Affairs.
Flirtations by mail have taken an
awful slump in Atlanta since the in
troduction of a series of questions
which are asked every person who calls
at the general delivery for mail.
For a number of years the postoffice
corridors in Atlanta and in other cities
have been thronged with girls who were
carrying on clandestine correspondence
and who had their letters directed to
general delivery in oruer to evade the
watchful care of their parents. Post
masters all over the country com
plained of the matter, and among the
first to take up its correction with the
postmaster general wap Postmaster H.
L. McKee of the Atlanta office, w’ho
finally received authority to compile a
series »of questions to ask each appli
cant for mall.
This plan recently was started and
the series of questions included the age,
occupation, street address, name of
parents, in case of minors, and a spe
cific reason for using this window. •
"That last question, a specific reason
for using this window, has proved a
'feazer' to many girls, and especiallj r to
the younger and more Innocent ones,”
says D. C. Cole, assistant postmaster,
who is in charge in the absence of
Postmaster McKee.
"Many of the girls have succeeded in
giving answers so that we are com
pelled under the postal laws to deliver
their mail, but the clerks tell me that
numbers of familiar faces have dropped
from sight. This is especially true of
the younger ones, and that is the kind
we want to reach. We want to stop
them before they get too far from out
of their parents' influence.”
RHEUMATISM IS ~
JUST LIKE AhT
OTHER DISEASE
RESULTS FROM CONDITIONS
THAT CAN BE REMEDIED
Whether You Have Suffered For
Years or Have But a First
Twinge or Two, Applications
on the Skin Can Not Get at the
Cause of the Pain.
Probably Just a bilious attack and a
slight deposit of uric acid that was not
promptly expelled. Calomel and simi
lar mercurial purgatives do not dis
solve and expel the uric acid sediment
that forms from undigested, ferment
ing foods, and when this poisonous
acid gets in the blood stream it spreads
through the system. It accumulates
quickly, thickens the blood, and settles
in joints and muscles. And the joints
and muscles then stiffen with rheuma
tism.
An attempt to cure this rheumatism
must be directed to removing the uric
acid from the blood and tissues, pre
venting the deposit of crystalline urates
and breaking up those already formed.
There have been many so-called uric
acid solvents. They dissolve uric acid
in the test tube, but when they reach
the stomach the hydrochloric acid pres
ent changes their chemistry completely
and renders them ineffectual. JACOBS’
LIVER SALT dissolves uric acid out
of the tissues, holds it in solution and
expels it in the urine.
JACOBS’ LIVER SALT Is remark
ably successful in the treatment of
rheumatism. It thoroughly cleanses
the system of all fermentation and uric
acid sediment and purifies the blood. It
will give prompt relief in all cases of
rheumatism resulting from uric acid
poisoning.
If you are suffering with rheumatism,
try JACOBS’ LIVER SALT immediate
ly. It will relieve you more promptly
and surely than anything else. Effer
vescent and agreeable in taste. Don’t
take an inferior substitute. Some prep
arations very closely imitate the name,
but their action is very different to the
genuine JACOBS’ LIVER SALT. 1-2-

B. L. Burwell, Director of
Agencies, Industrial Department.
Insurance Merger’s Atlanta Of
fices in Charge of E. L. Brad
ley and B. L. Burwell.
Following the reinsurance of the
Rome Life Ineurance Company by the
Cherokee Life Insurance Company,
which has a surplus of $448,386.50 and
insurance in force amounting to $15,-
375,394, the Atlanta office will continue
in charge of E. L. Bradley, superin
tendent of this district. Mr. Bradley,
who has had charge of the companies’
business here for the last five years, is
an old Metropolitan man, having been
connected with that company for about
ten years, leaving it to form a connec
tion with the Rome Life in 1907.
The business in the Atlanta district
is large. This is evidenced by the pay
ment since July 15 of 40 death claims.
Mr. Bradley says the change in his
companies' business has been taken ad
vantage of by some to misrepresent the
situation with those who are not in
formed, for the purpose of getting them
to transfer their policies. He further
ways those these who transfer get only
half benefit policies and should not al
low themselves to be misled to their
disadvantage in this manner.
The Cherokee, following the merger
with the Rome Life, is stamping all
the policies of the latter company with
a guarantee of payment by the, Chero
kee Life, and that those who have not
yet had their policies so stamped and
who do not care to wait until the agent
of the company gets around to them,
may bring their policies to the office of
the company, 810-814 Empire Life
building.
B. L. Burwell, one of the pioneers of
industrial insurance in the South, who
opened the Atlanta district for the Life
Insurance Company of Virginia eight
years ago and was afterward made su
pervisor of agents for that company,
will be remembered by his many
friends in Atlanta and the South as
a man who has been one of the greatest
factors tn the upbuilding of the indus
trial insurance business throughout the
Southern states.
Mr. Burwell has entire charge of the
agency force in the industrial depart
ment of the Cherokee Life, which in
sures the rapid growth of the depart
ment.
As a strong evidence of the entire
confidence in the companies’ future
since Mr. Burwell has taken charge of
this department, he has already se
cured, in addition to the entire force of
the Rome Life, A. E. Fridge, of Spar
tanburg, S. C.; A. B. Thompson, of
Greer, S. C„ and the following insur
ance men well known In Atlanta: W. M.

CARE OF THE TEETH’
IMPORTANT TO HEALTH
Without perfect teeth one can not
enjoy perfect health. Decayed or im
perfect teeth are not only painful and
continuously annoying, but a positive
menace to health and even life.
Do not neglect your teeth. Upon the
first sign of decay have them treated
and save suffering. Or, if the teeth are
already in had condition, have them at
tended to at once.
The modern scientific painless meth

performed quickly and without pain.
