MAILFLIHTATIONS DNTHEDEGHEASE New General Delivery Rule Causes Many Girls to Drop Secret Love Affairs. Flirtations by mail have taken an awful slump In Atlanta since the in troduction of a series of questions which are asked every person who calls at the general delivery for mail. For a number of years the postoffice corridors in Atlanta and in other cities have been thronged with girls who were carrying on clandestine correspondence and who had their letters directed to general delivery in oroer to evade the watchful care of their parents. Post masters all over the country com plained of the matter, and among the first to take up its correction with the postmaster general was Postmaster H. L. McKee of the Atlanta office, who finally received authority to compile a series of questions to ask each appli cant for mail. This plan recently was started and the series of questions Included the age, occupation, street address, name of parents, in case of minors, and a spe cific reason for using this window. "That last question, a specific reason for using this window, has proved a ’fcazer’ to many girls, and especially to the younger and more innocent ones,” says D. C. Cole, assistant postmaster, who is in charge In the absence of Postmaster McKee. “Many of the girls have succeeded in giving answers so that we are com pelled under the postal laws to deliver «their mail, but the clerks tell me that numbers of familiar faces have dropped from sight. This is especially true of the younger ones, and that is the kind we want to reach. Director of Agencies, Industrial Department. Insurance Merger’s Atlanta Of fices in Charge of E. L. Brad ley and B. L. Burwell. Following the reinsurance of the Rome Life Insurance Company by the Cherokee Life Insurance Company, which has a surplus of $448,386.50 and insurance in force amounting to $15,- 375,394, the Atlanta office will continue in charge of E. L. Bradley, superin tendent of this district. Mr. Bradley, who has had charge of the companies’ business here for the last five years, is an old Metropolitan man, having been connected with that company for about ten years, leaving it to form a connec tion with the Rome Life in 1907. The business in the Atlanta district is large. This is evidenced by the pay ment since July 15 of 40 death claims. Mr. Bradley says the change in his companies’ business has been taken ad vantage of by some to misrepresent the situation with those who are not in formed. for the purpose of getting them to transfer their policies. He further eays those these who transfer get only half benefit policies and should not al low themselves to be misled to their disadvantage in this manner. The Cherokee, following the merger with the Rome Life, is stamping al! the policies of the latter company with a guarantee of payment by the Chero kee Life, and that those who have not yet had their policies so stamped and who do not case to wait until the agent of the company gets around to them, may bring their policies to the office of the company, 810-814 Empire Life building. B. L. Burwell, one of the pioneers of industrial Insurance in the South, who opened the Atlanta district for the Life Insurance Company of Virginia eight years ago and was afterward made su pervisor of agents for that company, will be remembered by his many friends in Atlanta and the South as a man who has been one of the greatest factors in the upbuilding of the indus trial insurance business throughout the Southern states. MARRIED MAN JAILED, SINGLE MAN SOUGHT, FOR ATTACKING GIRL ASHTABULA, OHIO, Aug. 24—Bliss Ashby, married, a farmer, is in jail at Jefferson and police and citizens are seeking Starr Peck, aged 25, single, who Is wanted for an alleged attack on Liz zie Holden, aged 17, who was riding in a buggy with them near Rock creek. Threats of lynching have been made. Ashby is guarded in his cell. Miss Holden is reported to be in a critical condition today. Farmers in the vicinity through which the three were riding heard the girl’s screams and ran to her rescue. Peck jumped from the buggy and fled. Ashby has a wife and two children. LAWYER. 75, SUES YOUNG WIFE, 3RD, FOR DIVORCE CLEVELAND, OHIO, Aug. 24.—Jay P. Dawley, aged 75, Cleveland’s most noted criminal lawyer, today sued his wife, Maida E. Dawley, aged 30, for di vorce.
