BALKAN PRINCESS HERE FOR DEBUT Atlanta Theater Opens Tonight With Musical Show Which Has Big Reputation. Everything at the Atlanta theater is tn readiness for the opening of the 1912-13 season tonight. "The Balkan Princess” is the offering at this begin ning of a new year, the second of the Charles Frohman-Klaw & Erlanger house. The demand for tickets has been unusually heavy for the entire en gagement. three, performances. For the past few weeks forces of employees have been industriously working to fully prepare for a good ,start at the new playhouse. Every thing has been renovated, cleaned, •scrubbed and gone over time after time, until a polish is where it should be and a thorough cleanliness everywhere. The fire department has made careful in spections and tests of the safety and precautionary measures in connection with the theater, and declare it per fectly safe. The big electric fans which distribute cold air throughout the auditorium have been tested also. Comfort and safety are assured. “The Balkan Princess” has been play ing en route to Atlanta in other cities, and the verdict everywhere has been generously full of praise. Allen John son, In The Birmingham News, has just written: Praised in Birmingham. “Mirth, music and romantic love were the chief items of the theatrical menu delightfully served to the first audience of the season when ‘The Balkan Prin cess’ was presented Wednesday even ing. Her highness found immediate fa vor here, and her welcome was royal indeed if applause is still an indication of approval. "Miss Julia Gifford always will re ceive a warm welcome here. Her so prano voice was one of the delights of the evening. It is well cultivated, pos sesses a wide range and a real quality of appeal. The cast is large and there is no material weakness in it. "As a whole the production is de cidedly worth seeing. and the music alone should fill the house for the two remaining performances.” Ihe critic on The Age-Herald was equally enthusiastic, while The Ledger was full of praise for the play and the players. "The Balkan Princess” will play here 'wo nights and one matinee, the latter being at the dollar popular prices, which/iave done so much to make for popularity at the Klaw & Erlanger the ater. It's true they’ll not be on the payroll of the police department as regulation city detectives, but still they'll be sleuths just the same, with all of the necessary nerve, tact, and shrewdness. In other words, Atlanta has in- store a decided innovation —a woman’s de tective agenc y. It will be the only one in the United States. Ten of ’Em of All Ages. Mrs. Hattie Barnett, who is the only licensed woman detective in the South, is behind the movement, and will make formal application for a permit for the agency at the nekt meeting of the po lice commission. , Mrs. Barnett already is organizing her corps of feminine sleuths, and will be ready to put them on the trail of “bad citizens’’ within a short time. There will be ten of tllem, of different ages and of various types of beauty— blondes and brunettes, long and short ones, and-fat and slim ones, Mrs. Bar nett says they will be <he kind of women who can mingle in the best of society and who will be able to gain the information they start out to find. Four of these fair sleuths will be professionals, recruited from other sections of the country. The remain- BANKRUPT STORE SOLD. EASTMAN, GA..
