THEA'I'I.AXTA GEORGIAN AX'u N!-V. s. r E AD FOR PROFTi-GEQ.RGiAN WANT ADS-USE FOR RESULTS WEDNESDAY. SEPT. 12, 1912 Poultry. Pet and Live Stock When y o it r choice hens, <>r I , any of your hens JACIVICC want to sot. don't shut them up in j - an old dark, dirtv H I'olll box or be cm. l to 1 them ih any wav. but get a ni. clean box with lilt. slats on the bot- tom, set the box /> ~ a few inches m': l/OH Hl'}' the ground, th. put biddie in. giv. her plenty of grit IjntfOi' tn a dish and don't ■* z "( ' r// forget charcoal and oystet shells and the last of feed and water, all th. fr. sh n.. at you thinly good for her. and in a few days she will be so husx laving .-.’its she will forget sh- ever wanted to set. Try it and see. She will be strong and hp.ilthv, too. If you have a few fowls, or many; whether you live neat tow n or a long distance from town, timiv .. . a f.-w remedies you can not do very w ell without, though if your chicks are on .. a farm and have free run you will have less need of them. gi,«d roup cure blue ointment for lie.- (I have used it very sparingly on little chicks, but pre. fer to keep the grown sow ls free if pos sible). and a good c'nol/'ta . uro ate verv useful. Venetian red is a good proven five to keep in the drinking water enough to color the water well. A good spray dope is also necessary. The Douglas mixture for a tonic and for colds, kerosene for slight colds, sun flower seeds and kaffir corn as a beau tifier of plumage and an aid in moult ing time are very useful also. Also have grit and oyster shells and plenty of charcoal. Don't think 1 mean for you to doctor your fowls all the time - far from it—but they as well as people get sick. Many a good bird is lost just for the lack of such remedies as I have mentioned. And when you notice an ailing fowl, investigate at once and keep it away from the others, often a bird will have indigestion, so skip a meal or give it an entire change of feed. As a genera! thing, where fowls are on free range there is much less liability of disease. Feed th. fowls yourself, if you can. and always see if they act right at feeding time. Don't dope your fowls all the time any more than you would yourself. Leghorns.
