JEWS FASTING AND
PRAYING; NO FOOD
EATEN IN 24 HOURS
The Day of Atonement, or Yom Kip
pur. is being observed today by the
Jewish people of Atlanta with fasting
and prayer. Religious Jews have not
touched a morsel of food since sunset
Friday, and not until the sun's last rays
are hidden this afternoon will they take
nourishment.
It is the most solemn day in the Jew
ish calendar and is the time when peni
tence is shown.
Even in the Federal prison, where
there are 29 Jewish prisoners, the day
is being observed and all of them are
carrying out its rites as far as prison
laws and regulations will allow them.
Services were held for them today by
H. Rothenburg, of Atlanta.

STOCK COMPANY TO
OPEN THE FORSYTH
THEATER OCTOBER?
The Forsyth ends its popular vaude
ville season with matinee and night
performances today and will be aark for
two weeks, reopening with a high-class
stock company on Monday, October 7.
This is the arrangement that has been
perfected, and has been announced by
Jake Wells, the director general of the
Wells circuit.
Mr. Wells has for some months con
templated the introduction of a. stock
company here, just as other cities have,
but until he determined to make a home
for the style of entertainment nothing
was said for publication. In other cities
real dramatic artists are assembled each
regular season, and standard plays are *
presented, with every attention to de
tail of production, sometimes prior to
tlie visit of a traveling organization
presenting some Eastern or Western
success.
During the time the Forsyth will be
dark the stage will be made ready for
the reception of the company, and the
touching up of interior decorations will
be given attention.
GRAND WILL GET MANY
FINE VAUDEVILLE ACTS
A comprehensive idea of the develop
ment of the vaudeville producer is em
braced in the announcenient of the
