November Is the
Favored Month
of Brides and
" Buds"
NOVEMBER, conceded to be
the debutantes’ month, is
also a favorite with the au
tumn bride. The majority of the
socially prominent weddings for
Atlanta have been set for some
time in that month.
Miss Mary Traylor has chosen
November 9 for her wedding day.
She will be married to Mr. Rudolph
J. Thieson, the ceremony to take
place at the home of the bride's
parents, Mr. and Mrs. George M.
Traylor, on Ponco DeLeon avenue.
There will be a charming bridal
group, consisting of six young
women and an equal number of
men, and a large reception will
follow the marriage. Miss Traylor
is a popular member of the young
er contingent, having made her
debut two seasons ago. She will
be delightfully entertained before
her marriage. Mrs. Edward F.
Munford and Miss Elizabeth Mun
ford, of Washington, D. C., for
merly of Atlanta, will come to
Atlanta for the Traylor-Thieson
nuptials.
Miss Elizabeth Rawson, Miss
Kate Felder and Miss Julie Rich
ardson will all be November brides.
The October contingent has
claimed several out-of-town brides
for Atlanta groomsmen. One of
the most interesting of this series
of weddings is the marriage of
Miss Nell Hodgson, of Athens, to
Mr. Robert Winship Woodruff,
which will be an event of next
week.
Engagements Announced.
The engagements announced
from time to time add interesting
possibilities to the season's social
forecast.
Miss Helen Dargan, one of the
prominent debutantes of the sea
son. will be the honoree at two
large affairs, given by Mr. and Mrs.
Milton Dargan. The first of these
will be a dinner-dance at the Driv
ing club on the evening of No
vember 13, when the members of
the younger set will be - enter
tained. Later in the saeson Mr.
and Mrs. Dargan will entertain
their married friends, celebrating
their wedding anniversary and in
troducing their debutante daugh
ter at the same affair, which will
be a brilliant event of the winter.
The date for the debut of Miss
Hildreth Burton Smith, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Burton Smith, has
been announced for the afternoon
of November 7 at a tea given by
her parents at their home in Ans
ley Park. The following evening
Mrs. Orton Bishop Browne, of
Maine, will give a beautiful co
tillion at the Capital City club for
Miss Burton Smith, her niece.
Miss Mary Hines, the young
daughter of Judge and Mrs. James
K. Hines, will make her formal
bon at a dinner-dance on the even
ing of November 15. Miss Sarah
Coates will have some guests the
latter part of autumn for whom
she will entertain, and she does not
Plan a formal debut. Miss Jane
Cooper will be a debutante, but has
not decided on her parties as yet,
and Misses Lyda Nash, Marie
Pappenheimer and Emily Cassin
will announce their parties later.
Postpone Their Debuts.
Several young women who were
announced early in the season as
debutantes have decided to post
pone their debuts another year.
Miss Laura Lee Cooney expects to

There are fewer debutantes by
half than last year and, so far, the
brides-to-be for the season are
about one-third as numerous as
last season. However, the pros
pects for a gay season ar- bright
with various affairs,

Draper was elected president this
week, has announced a series of
balls, which will be among the
most enjoyable of the season's
functions. Tlie flrat of these will

Driving club.

ing will be a large dinner-dance
on November 19 at the Driving
club for the National Eire Insur
ance Agents, the affair to be at

The Driving club will be the
acene of much entertaining thia
year, being a favorite with the
younger set especially, and chosen
for many of the debut parties. The
Capital City club will be the scene
of much brilliant entertaining also,
the majority of the affairs on the
calendar being for later In the sea
son, along toward the Christmas
holidays and afterward
Air. liobut Maddux is the new
president of the Capital City club
and his lovely wife, one bf the
most popular women of Atlanta
society, will be a charming offi
cial hostess at the Capital City
< lul> affairs. The Cotillion club al
ways entertains at the Capital City
club, as does the dinner-dance
club. Neither of these organiza
tions hus set dates as yet.
Atlanta Girls Are
Accorded Social
Events in
Many Cities
A NUMBER of Atlanta young
women are visiting in va
rious cities at the present
time, and are being extensively en
tertained*
Miss Katherine Gordon has had
a series of parties given for her in
Columbus, where she formerly lived
and has spent the week visiting as
the guest of Miss Nouna Dlges.
Miss Helen Moody is visit
ing Miss Dorothy Brode In Mem
phis, going for Miss Brode’s' wed
ding. Miss Moody has often visited
in Memphis, and has many friends
there, who will accord her social
attentions. Miss Helen Thorn, as
the guest of her sister, Mrs. Allen
Artley, in Macon, has been enter
tained at a number of social af
fairs.
Miss Laura Ansley and Miss
Constance Knowles are visiting rel
atives in New York and are re
ceiving much attention. Miss
Knowles is the guest of her cousin,
Mrs. Seligman, formerly Miss Josie
Knowles, of Pensacola, and Miss
Ansley is with her aunt, Mrs. Philip
Harrison. Miss Ansley will also
visit in Suffolk, Va., before return
ing to Atlanta. Miss Carolyn King
is being entertained delightfully in
Orange, N. J., as the guest of Miss
Mildred Hazen. Miss Ida Alexander,
after a stay in New York, is the
guest of Mrs. Reese Stockton, in
Plainfield, N. J.
Affairs For Visitors.
Several of the most Interesting
affairs of the week in Atlanta so
ciety have been occasioned by the
visitors. Miss Evelyn Rose, of
Knoxville, as the guest of Miss
Helen Hawkins, has been enter
taiped-at many parties of the week.
Miss Marjorie Bobb, of New Or
leans, has been the honor guest at
a series of parties while visiting
Miss Jennie D. Harris. Miss Jo
seph, of Columbus, is being enter
tained in a charming manner as
the guest of Mrs. Edward H.
Barnes, and Mrs. Herbert Blair
Hanger has been given several par
ties, while the guest of Mrs. Martin
Dunbar.
A large and unique social event
of the week was the Old Guard
ball on Thursday evening. The
Auditorium was crowded with
guests, three thousand invitations
having been Issued. The members
of the Old Guard, resplendent in
their new regalia, were the heroes
of the hour.
A bevy of young women, compos
ing a battalion of ‘Tnvinclbles,”
added greatly to the pleasure of
the evening by their drills and
dances. These young women were
Misses Lucy Stockard, Passie May
Ottley, Hildreth Smith, Annie Lee
McKenzie. Aimee Hunnicutt, Lula
Dean Jones, Mary Traylor, Sarah
Rawson, Marie Cobb, Helen Dar
gan, Leone Ladson. Mabel Conway,
Emily Winship, Lucy Hoke Smith,
Elizabeth Grenade, Elizabeth Mor
gan, Nellie Kiser Stewart, Mar
quesse Rltch, Nora Belle Rosser,
Frances Connally, Margaret Haw
kins, Rose Belle Chapman, Cobble
Vaughn, Nell Phillips and Jennie D.
Harris.
Minuet a Feature.
The feature of the evening was
the minuet which was danced by a
group of prominent young women,
wearing powdered hair and Colo
nial costumes. The young women
dancers were Misses Helen Dar
gan, Marion Goldsmith, Lyda Nash,
Lucy Hoke Smith, Callie Smith,
Irene Austin, Laura Cowles and
Janie Cooper. Their partners in
cluded six of the young men of
the dancing contingent.
A notable event of the week was
the buffet supper given by Mr. and
Mrs. John Marshall Slaton at theiV
summer home on Peachtree road.
Mr. and Mrs. Morris Brandon were
the honor guests of the occasion,
and the guests included the neigh
bors of Mr. and Mrs. Brandtm, who
make up a most interesting colony.
Other parties of the week were
the tea given by Mrs. Scott Hudson
at her home at East Lake and the
afternoon reception given by Mrs.
\V. E. Campbell in honor of Miss
Elvira Westmoreland, a bride-elect,
and Miss Ruth McGee, of Green
ville, S. C. Other brldes-elect who
have been entertained at parties
during the week are Miss Jule Hun
ter and MiM Pearl Davis,
