THE REPORT
"The Finance Committee pays close attention to the In.
vestments of the Company’s.funds, and it should be heartily
commended for a resolution it has adopted for its guidance.
It is provided by this resolution that no member of the Com
mittee shall, either directly or indirectly, borrow any of the
Company’s funds, nor shall any member, directly or indi
rectly, receive or take any commission for loans made, or
upon securities purchased for the Company. ”
He also says: “The Company’s minutes are well kept,
and set out in detail the action of the Directors and various
Committees.”
And in his final comment he further states: “The offi
cers of the Company must be complimented for their admin
istration, which is without reproach, and for the earnest
desire they have ever displayed to conserve the interests of
the policyholders.”

Manager Dan Carey Reports
on Animals Now Extinct in
Georgia Range.
W. T. Hornaday, director of the
Bronx zoo of New York city, has do
nated a female black buck for the
Gress zoo. The gift is worth about
$125. The city already has a male
black buck.
As the agent of the New York Zoo
logical Society, Mr. Hornaday has writ
ten Dan Carey, general manager of
Atlanta's parks, for information on
game extinction in Georgia. He is col
lecting statistics for the whole United
States, which will be the most accu
rate on record. The animals he has in
quired about are reported to him to
be extinct.
After an investigation, Manager Ca
rey said today that many species
thought to be extipct In this section
were still in evidence.
Passenger Pigeons Extinct.
The passenger pigeon, the bison, the
puna-mon mountain lion and elk are
gone.
Mr Carey said the Southeastern
states were the original range of the
American buffalo, but that they were
driven West by the early settlers.
The last passenger pigeops in (Jeor
gia were observed in 1886 on Pigeon
river, in Haywood county, near the
North Carolina line. It was a large
covey, but disappeared after the sum
mer season of 1886.
According to his information, the
Carolina parakeet and the whooping
c[ane are extinct, though they were seen
a few years ago.
Ruffed grouse are found in the moun
tains of northeast Georgia.
Snowy Egrets Plentifql.
Snowy egrets are numerous along
the coast, the most important rookeries
being at Brunswick and St. Marys.
Sand hill crane are numerous in
south Georgia. White-tailed deer are
also still to be found. Black bears are
common around the swamps of south
Georgia.
Gray wolves are occasionally seen in
the mountains of the extreme north gs
the state, but the pack is gone. Only
individuals are ever observed.
Beavers are seen rarely.
MRS. E. P. M’BURNEY,
PROMINENT WORKER
FOR CHARITIES, DIES
Mrs. E. P. Mcßurney, leader in society
and prominent In all charitable work, died
at a private sanitarium yesterday after
noon at 2 o'clock after an illness of four
Weeks.
Mrs. Mcßurney was one of the chips
supporters of the Home for the Friend
less.
As Miss Maggie Berry, daughter of
Maxwell R. Berry, a pioneer citizen of
Atlanta, she was a leader 1n the younger
social life of thq city before her marriage.
She is survived by her husband, three
sisters, Mrs H. P. Scales, Mrs. William
Crumley and Mrs. J. O. Wright, of At
lanta. and by a sister-in-Jgw, rM s - H. R.
Berry.
The funeral will take place tomorrow at
her late residence, 1058 Peachtree, Dr. R.
Q. Flinn, pastor of the North Avenue
Presbyterian church, officiating. The in
terment will be at Westview.
