Poultry Show Notes
By PERCY li. WHITING.
About the cleanest thing in the way
of a clean sweep ever made at any
show was that of John Low Smith's
Wonderland Poultry Farm in the White
Runner duck class. All he took was
12, 3 pen, in a class of 11; 1.2, 3 hen
in a class of 15; 3, 4 cock in a class of
11; 1.4, 5 cockerel in a class of 15
and 1, 2 pullet in a class of 16. not to
mention a silver cup for the best pen
of White Runners in the show.
The White Runner class numbered
110, and was thus one of the largest
that the country ever knew.
The only Blue Orpingtons in the show
are in pens number 388, 389 and 390.
Don't miss them. They are among the
wonders of the show.
The Partridge Plymouth Rock pen,
No. 759 in the show, ran the Brown
Leghorns a very close race for first
honors in the "best pen of parti-colored
fowls in the show" class. It is a fine
lot of birds and entitled to honors any
where.
No exhibit of Rhode Island Reds has
attracted more attention than that of
Barrett Phlnlzy, of Athens, Ga. Mr.
Phinlzy is showing both Single and
Rose Comb birds, and has some excep
tional specimens, Mr. Phinizy’s birds
took the following prizes last year:
Single Comb Rhode Island Reds—
First pen at Tennessee state fair and
sweepstakes pen of the show; at Appa
lachian exposition, first pen, best pen
from state of Georgia, all breeds com
peting, and Rhode Island Red club spe
cial; at Augusta, Ga., on two entries,
won third pen and fifth cock; at Ath
ens, Ga., won first and second pen, first
cock and sweepstakes cock of the show;
at Memphis, Tenn., second cock.
Rose Comb Rhode Island Reds—At
Appalachian exposition, first pen and
Rhode island Red special; at Augusta,
Ga., first cockerel and third pullet on
two entries; at Athens. Ga.. first hen,
first cockerel, first pullet and first hen:
at Southern International, at Atlanta,
Ga., first pullet and fourth pen.
Mrs. W. J. Root, of Ensley, Ala., is
at the local show soliciting subscrip
tions for The Practical Poultry Jour
nal, a new publication issued from Bir
mingham, Ala.
The exhibit of .the Regal Wyandotte
Yards, of 230 Oglethorpe avenue, is an
unusually good one. The yards of this
concern, located In West End. contain
several hundred high-class birds.
Mrs. B. M. Franklin, of Orme wood
Park, won nine prizes with nine entries
of Buff Orpington ducks. The prizes
were 1, 2 hen, 1 cock, 1, 2 cockerel.
1. 2. 3 pullet, 1 hen. This was very
nearly a clean sweep.
A fine winning in Single Comb Rhode
