Clubwomen Start
Making Bread Till
Bakeries Clean Up
Montgomery Housewives Launch
Campaign for More Hygienic
Food—Boycott Places.
MONTGOMERY, ALA.. Nov. 27.
Clubwomen of Montgomery have joined
in a movement to boycott Montgomery
bakeries. They declare they will bake
Hieir breads at home until the bakeries
clean up.
Agitation against, the bakeries was
sprung here last week by Mrs. Caroline
Bartlett Crane, who declared that there
wasn’t a decent bakery in the entire
city. Despite the subsequent protests
of the bakeries, Mrs. Crane was sus
tained by municipal authorities and the.
clubwomen took up the campaign for
more hygienic food.
Tlie clubwomen maintain that they
do not want the bakeries to install new
machinery, but they demand that they
make their shops more sanitary. Until
they do, the club members have de
termined to "live at home."
The good women
of Atlanta have al
ready found where
they can get clean,
pure bread, for
most of them have
visited the bakery
where Zakas bread
is made, and they
are perfectly satis
fied. It is good,
pure and clean.
