Also by breeders who want to exhibit their stock at the fall and early winter shows. There is nothing that will do better service for the above than green ent bone fresh from the butcher’s block. It develops as nothing else will that we have tried. First, it should be fresh. Second, it should be fed sparingly at first until the chicks be come accustomed to it. Third, after commenc ing with it it should be fed with a certain de gree of regularity until it is stopped entirely. It is worth so much to develop the young stock, and also to bring the old hens out of a slow moult that it is worth while to go to some ex pense and trouble to obtain it. Some ot our enterprising, meat markets own _ T .... and operate green bone cutters, and sell the pre- pared bone fresh to their customers at from 21-2 to 3 cents per pound. ’Phis makes a very convenient way for those who are in reach of such a market. Otherwise, it is advisable to purchase a mill of your own of a size suited to the demands of your Hock. Get your bones and have them ground at least three times a week. Grinding a smaller quantity every day would be bet ter. Ground boim is not a luxury, but you will find that it saves just that much money's worth in feed. In the absence of any feasible way to supply the fresh bone, the next best thing would be dried beefscrap, which can be procured of almost tiny dealer in poultry supplies in the principal eitii It costs from 3 to 3 1-2 cents a pound by the hundred and is a very desirable substitute for the green bone. It has its advantages in being put up in a shape to keep any reasonable length of Attention, Poultrymen! What Strain Have Yon?
