Mrs. Arnold Broyles, upon her re
turn from Savannah, where she has
been extensively entertained this
week as the guest of Miss Jane
Meldrim. A dinner party preced
ing the junior cotillion, at which
Miss Calhoun was an honor guest,
was given by Mr. Shelby Myrlck.

Miss Emily Cassln, who made her
debut on Thursday afteroon of this
week, will be the guest of honor at
several parties between now and
Christmas.
Several of the affairs on next
week's calendar are for visiting
girls. Miss Margot Cushing, of
Boston, will be the guest of honor
at a beautiful afternoon tea on
Tuesday, which will be given by
her hostess, Miss Eloise Oliver.

December and January Weddings
Challenge Interest of Society Folk
f'TT'v HE crimson star of the poin-
I settia blossom will soon burst
upon the social world, and for
a fortnight of gayety everything in
the decorative line will be of this
bright hue. The poinsettia is es
sentially the Christmas flower, al
though the flower is not native to
this country. In southern Europe,
at this season of the year, the flery
blossom will be seen in the open,
gazing up at the midnight sky.
An unusual and beautiful combi
nation of flowers was used at the
McCandless-Thornton wedding this
week. For the bridal table, in
stead of the usual white and green,
this charming bride chose Ameri
can Beauty' roses, connected with
garlands of Parma violets, through
the colors and arrangement the
flowers achieving an artistic and
novel effect.
A feature of the wedding was the
many' beautiful flowers used, both
at the church and at home, Eas
ter lilies and palms formed the mo
tif of church decoration. The bride,
who. during her social belledom, has
seldom been seen without a cor
sage bouquet of pink roses and lil
ies of the valley, chose these flow
ers for her bridesmaids.
A number of December and Jan
uary weddings are being looked for
ward to by Atlanta society. The
marriage of Miss Princess Watts
and Mr. Heibert Edward Macmur
pliy Ims been set for Tuesday , De
cember 17. The ceremony will be
performed by the Rev Dr. W W.
Memminger, of All Saints church,
at high noon, at the residence of
tiie bride's parents. Mr. and Mrs.
Joint R. Watts. Mrs. Louis Moeck -
el will be matron of honor, and
Miss Margaret Polhill. of Hawkins
ville, will be maid of honor. Misses
Louise and Edith Watts will be
bridesmaids. Mr. Thomas Mc-
Crady, of Pittsburg, will be best
man; Messrs. Waites Waring, of
Charleston, and John K. Watts, Jr.,
groomsmen. A series of parties will
be tendered the bride upon her re
turn from the wedding journey.
The wedding of Miss Van Spald
ing and Mr. James Daniel Palmer
w’ill be one of the interesting events
of January, in which the cordial In
terest of a wide circle of friends is
centered. The marriage will take
place on the evening of January 15.
at the home of the bride's uncle and
aunt. Mr. and Mrs. Clarence May,
with whom Miss Spalding has made
her home for some time. The love
ly young bride will be attended by
Miss Helen Hawkins as maid of
honor, and by Miss Mary Hawkins
and Miss Evelyn Reynolds, of .Bir
mingham, as bridesmaids. Mr. Pal
mer will be attended by his broth
er. Mr. Samuel Palmer, a student
at the University of Georgia, as
best man, and there will be two
groomsmen. The bride’s grandfa
ther. the Rev. A. T. Spalding, will
perforin the ceremony, which will
be witnessed by a large company
of guests Following the ceremony,
a reception will be held, after
which the young couple will leave
to spend their honeymoon in the
East.
One of the several out-of-town
weddings, where Atlanta furnishes
the bridegroom, is that of Miss Me
dora Eleanor Duncan, of Union, S.
C., and Mr. Turner Fitten, one of
this city's well known young men.
The wedding will be solemnized on
Saturday evening, December 28, at
the home of the bride's parents.
Colonel and Mrs. Thomas Carey
Dunean, and a color scheme of pink
and white will be carried out in
many elaborate details. Mrs. Wil
liam H. Glenn, of Atlanta, the bride
groom’s sister, will be matron of
honor, and the bride’s sister, Miss
Louise Duncan, will be maid of
honor. Mr Robert Clarke, of At
lanta. will be best man, and among
the attendants will be Mr. John M.
Cohen and Mr. Bert Dryden, of
Atlanta.
Among the guests going from
Atlanta to attend the wedding will
he the bridegroom's mother, Mrs.
John M. Fitten; Mr. and Mrs. Wil
liam 11. Glenn, and Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Goldsmith.
After a wedding journey East, the
young couple will be at home in At
lanta, where a cordial welcome will
be extended the bride, who will be
an acquisition to the ranks of
young matrons in the stKiul con
tingent.
Many Atlantans to Spend
Christmas in Old World
HOLIDAY visits are a feature
of this time of the year. Al
ways for Christmas many
visiting belles add to the social
brilliancy of the social events, and
always, too. Atlanta is the loser, for
the time being, of some of its most
popular members who are on visits
to other cities for the holidays.
Miss Margaret Hawkins, one of
llie most popular debutantes of the
season, will go to Mississippi for
Christmas, which she will spend
with her aunt, Mrs. William Haw
kins, in Winona, Miss.
Miss Annie Lee McKenzie and
Miss Sarah Rawson will spend the
holidays in Washington, D. C., as
guests of Miss Lucy Hoke Smith,
who will entertain a house party at
the home of her parents, Senator
and Mrs. Hoke Smith.
Miss May Atkinson leaves today
to visit Miss Eliza Dancy In Balti
more, and Miss Isabel Kuhrt is the
guest of Miss Grace Dillon in Hart
ford, Conn. Miss Elizabeth Hines
will spend Christmas in Chicago
with Miss Ruth Huffman.
Among the many holiday visitors
will be a number of college girls
who accompany the returning At
lanta girls home Misses Josephine
and Pauline Thomas, of Birming
ham, will accompany Miss Augusta
Gardien from Washington, D. C,
and will be guests of honor at a
dancing putty which Miss Gardien
gives during Christmas week. Miss
Elizabeth Robison, of Dallas, Texas,
will spend the holidays with Mtss
Alllne Fielder.
Among the Atlantans who will
enjoy a foreign Christmas are two
lovely sisters. Mrs. Harvey Ander
son and Miss Rosalie Davis, who
are established for the winter in
Florence. The beautiful villa of
Counteesa Lazarrl at 66 Via Della
Scala, which is occupied by four
teen American girls, under the
chaperonage of the Counteesa, will
be the home of Mrs. Anderson and
Miss Davie during their stay 1n
Florence. The villa Is directly op
posite the American gardens, where
there are tennis courts, etc. In ad
dition to the many pleasures Inci
dent upon life in Florence —one of
the most fascinating of European
cities—Mrs. Anderson and Miss
Davis are studying French, Italian
and the history of art.
Miss Dorothy Harman Is another
young Atlanta girl who will spend
Christmas abroad. Miss Harman is
studying at the Klatte school in
Berlin and is enjoying a very inter
esting social life as well.
Mies Mudge Horne and Miss
Irene Lopez, who are abroad with a
party of friends from Boston, will
spend Christmas in Paris. Miss
Lucy Harrison, who sailed for home
today, after an extended stay
abroad, will return home for the
