eoo-.s for breakfast, or for the youth on tile farm
who has some ideas of his own he wauls to see
carried out.
First of all, the beginner needs a place of
shelter for his prospective flock. Perhaps you
may have a shed that is not utilized for any
purpose at present which you can eon vert into
a fairly good roosting place for a dozen hens.
If you have nothing of the kind and live in
town or village, a suitable house can be con
structed at a cost of from $10.(K) to $25.00. For
the former amount, if you are handy with tools
von can do most of the work' yourself, yon can
construct a neat appearing shed, sa.vi 10x12 feet
on the ground. 8 feet high in front and 6 feet
at the rear, with a sloping roof. lad it be neat
and tidy in apppearance. vet not fanev.
The roosts, nest boxes, feeding troughs, and C ..
all accessories should be movable and easy to take from the house
to clean. You will need some yards fenced with wire netting,
using boards two feet high at !
the ground to prevent lighting!
between male birds where the ;
yards .join. Thirty to forty <l<>l- j
lars will tit up things in pretty j
good shape for beginning.
On the farm, where a bright boy with I
the consent of his father can utilize i
some outbuilding already up, the cost 1
of tarred paper and a few extras- to re- ,
model the shed will be but nominal.
Better Io ik into the matter and plan |
some before you coniinenee your op- i
erations and find out about the final |
cost. Then you will not lie disgusted |
at any complications that may arise. >
Having secured comfortable quar- i

tured and of equal vigor.
With such a layout you can soon '
test the sincerity of your fancy to en

task. Fowls must be cared fur. not ■

Fresh water must be provided in ves j

into which scratching straw or leaves
