Following an order issued Saturday
night by Police Commissioner Bet
terton. all of the chewing gum slot
machines recently Installed in the sa
loons and cigar stands of Chattanooga
were removed today and stored In the
office of the local agent of the company
operating them.
Commissioner Betterton some days
ago permitted the installment of these
machines, upon the representation that
they were not gambling devices. How
ever, following a newspaper crusade
against them, the commissioner per
sonally investigated and this was fol
lowed by the order of removal,

who was charged with having attempt
ed to kidnap his fiancee. Vacaro Col
letta, fifteen years old. in an automo

Torrison in the Chicago avenue court
on his promise not to marry the girl
until she is of age. Gennoa, who eatue
to Chicago from Hammond and is
twenty years old, tearfully avowed his
love for the girl in telling his »story to
the court.

CHICAGO, Dee. 9.—The similarity of
his name with that of a famous judge
of Biblical times saved Alexander Pon
tius Dilate, 1022 South Jefferson street,
a junk dealer, from a fine when he was
arraigned before Municipal Judge Hop
kins at the South Clark street court.
Pontius Pilate was charged with buying
junk without a license, but promised to
procure one.

Gas Show in Auditorium Will Be Open Today
The At’; nt Gas Light Company is pleased to announce that
the splendid international exposition of gas appliances that entertain
ed and instructed the Atlanta public during the past week will re
main open on Monday, December the ninth, from 1 0 o’clock a. m.
to 1 0 o’clock p. m.‘
This company purchased practically the entire exhibition, and
upon request of the Atlanta Ad Men’s Club agreed to leave the
show intact until ah the school children had an opportunity to
thoroughly inspect it, and in addition to afford the same opportunity
to those who were kept from the show last week on account of the
inclement weather. The Associated Charities will receive one-half
the sum taken in at the doors.
In order to aid the Ad Men in their campaign for
the Associated Charities, and to induce all who have
not seen the exposition to go to the Auditorium
Monday, the price of admission has been reduced to
10 cents for adults and children alike.
