10 Society Welcomes Sir Thomas to Atlanta Sir Thomas Lipton is receiving a cor dial welcome in Atlanta, several bril liant affairs having been planned foi the short time he is in th.- city. Colo nel Willis Kagan gives the largest of these affairs, a reception for 301) guests, from 4 to t> o’clock this afternoon at the Capital City club, the host being as sisted in receiving by Mr. and Mrs. John Marshall Slaton. Mr. and Mrs. John W. Grant, Mr. and Mrs. James R Gray. Mr. and Mrs. Keats Speed, Mr. and Mrs. Clark Howell. Judge and Mrs. William T. Newman. Judge and Mrs Don Pardee. Mr. am! Mis Robert Fos ter Maddox. Mr. and Mis. John S. Co hen, Captain and Mrs. Henry Bank head, Mr. and Mrs. Henry S. Jackson. Mrs. Albert E. Thornton and Miss Isma Dooly. The receiving party stood before a bank of palms. Smilax formed a mural (tecoration, and palms were grouped In the corners of the room, vases of pink roses being placed on pedestals through out the apartments. A group of charming girls, including Misses Katherine Ellis. Harriet Cal houn. Marjorie Brown. Sarah Rawson. Kathryn Gordon, Annie Lee McKenzie. Mary Helen Moody, Anne Orme and Martha Phinizy, of Athens, presided over the tea table in the reception rootn. This evening the distinguished visi tor will be honor guest at a dinner party which Mr. and Mrs. Slaton give, covers to be laid for twelve, at a table elaborately decorated in American Beautj' roses and lilies of the valley. The dinner party at which Colonel Rkgan will entertain tomorrow in honor of Sir Thomas will assemble 20 guests. The dinner will be given at Colonel Ragan's home on Peachtree street, and the guests will include Mrs. Albert E. Thornton. Misses Anne Orme. Harriet Calhoun. Martha Phinizy. Katherine El lis, Margaret Hawkins, Marjorie Brown, Passfe May Ottley, Esther Smith. Helen Payne, Colonel Neill, of London, and Messrs. Joseph Brown Connally. Marion Smith, Henry Newman. Walter T. Col- Miiitl, W. F. N»wman. James Ragan and Ralph Ragan. On Friday evening. Mr. and Mrs. Grant give a buffet supper, in honor of Sir Thomas Lipton. Holiday Tea. A wealth of red berried holly formed the decorations at the home of Mrs. A. W. Falkinburg in West-End yesterday afternoon, when Mrs. Falkinburg and Mrs. Joseph Lucius Singer entertained at tea. Christmas bells and wreaths a<l‘led to tin- decorations and the tea table had for a centerpiece a cut glass va.se of red roses, with all minor detai's in red and green. Mis. i,eon Singer, Mrs. DuPont Mc- Phail and Mrs. Furlong presided over the ten table. Little Margaret Thorn ton. who received the cards of the call • rs, wore white lingerie with red rib bons. Pretty toilets were worn by the hostesses and members of the receiving party, who were Mesdames Thomas Body, C. P. Stough. Jerome Jones and H E. Holbrook, and Misses Louise Johnson. Ethleen Stewart, Louise Loomis and Ruth Cox. For Miss Spalding. Sixteen young girls were guests of Miss Elizabeth Spalding, the young daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Spald ing, at a bridge party this afternoon. The party was given at the Piedmont Driving club and the tables were placed in the New York room. The score cards were hand painted in girls’ heads, and the prizes included a dainty bou doir cap for top score, and a picture for second prize. A souvenir for each guest then? itas a French nosegay. Dainty ‘refreshments were served on the card tables at the close of the game. Miss Spalding's aunt. Mrs. Clarence May. chaperoned the guests, who were Misses Elizabeth Hawkins, Katherine Law, May Crichton. Margaret McCarty, Grace Bloodworth, Carrie Blount, Hazel Ware, Marian Dunson.
