Destruction of Writings.
After giving Instructions relative to th#
classification of his papers by his wife
and daughters, he orders his writings to
be destroyed when what is worth preserv
ing has been extracted from them.
This applies particularly to the jour
nals he kept when s bachelor, when, he
says, he led the usual miserable life of
young men without principle. Then he
adds:
’’After all, let. my diaries remain as they
are It may be seen from them that de
spite the platitude and misery of iny
youth, God did not abandon me, and that

eral Leonard Wood, chief of staff of

Steunenberg would be mildly censured
for his poem, “An Object Lesson,”

berg will be requested in future not to
sign his poems as an officer of the
United States army.

gusta. Already $250,000 lias been spent
in the rap-rapping work, half of which
was paid by the city and half by the
government.
Congressman Hardwick is now at
work with tlie rivers and harbor com
mittee of congress to se< ure an appro
priation from tlie government to h«!p
