TD EXTENOI
SPRING STREET
TDPEJGHTREE I
Regrading and Repaving of j
West Peachtree Street Also
Urged by Taxpayers.
file two improvement projects which
will be must vigorously urged before I
the Ilnamo committee of the city coun
cil when it meets in Janutny to make
up the animal budget will be tie ex
tension of Spring street, from l-'our
ttentn street to Peachtree street, and
:l:e ; grading of West Peachtree street.
Petitions asking for both improve
ments have been signed by a large num- |
her of leading citizens, and today the !
advocates of both plans announced their j
intention of going before the commit - ,
tee and makinsr a persona! appeal for!
this much needed work.
Spring street now extends only to i
Fourteenth street. Yet the city has pur- |
chased a school lot at what is expected
to b< the corner of Spring street and
Sixteenth street. If extended in a
straight line, the street would strike
Peachtree street near Brookwood.
Land for Extension Free.
. Practically all the right-of-way for
this extension has been offered to the
j city free! That the congested traffic on
I Peachtree street demands a new thor
oughfare to the center of the city is
I obvious to all. and an additional argu
i ment for the opening of Spring street is
I that it would be the one long thorough
fare in the city free from trolley car i
lines.
West Peachtree street now is paved
with rough Belgian blocks, and the
grades on the street are steep. The
result of this bad condition is that all
of the natural West Peachtree street
traffic is thrown into Peachtree street.
A large number of citizens will urge
that the regrading work of this street
be commenced next year.
Both petitions ask that the co-oper- .
ation of the county commissioners be
obtained in this important street de
velopment.
Fight Boulevard Paving,
With Ivy street regraded and repaved.
i mid this work already has been begun
by the county. Peachtree street citizens
declare that their street will be worse
congested than ever beyond Ivy street,
unless West Peachtree street is Im
proved.
North Boulevard citizens are con
tinuing their light to have the pave
ment on their street rejected by the I
council and a good pavement put down. |
They are not satisfied with the prop
ositions made by G. M. Ingram, presi
dent of the Southern Bitulithic Com
pany. the company that put down the
pavement.
Council has notified the contractor
that tile street must be in proper re
pair by December 26, or the city will
call upon the bondsman of the company
to make good the contract.
Dr. Robin Adair said it had been two
years since he had been able to drive
an automobile up to the front of his
home, which he considered an outrage,
and that his displeasure at the condi
tion of the street was only typical of
the other residents.
